See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Instructors

These instructors are participating on at least one day of one date of this program.
Please note that changes may occur.

Andre Joubert

Andre Joubert has held numerous positions in managing and providing wildlife education throughout Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. This South African-born outdoorsman served as park warden of Skeleton Coast Park in Namibia and chief warden of Botswana’s Khama Rhino Sanctuary, whose objective was to save Botswana’s last remaining White Rhinoceros population. Andre shares a passion for working with people and instilling his strong wilderness ethics in public education.

Benson Siyawareva

Benson Siyawareva was born in the remote village of Zaka in southern Zimbabwe. His love of nature began when he joined the Boy Scouts, where he experienced camping, wildlife tracking and viewing. After some years of teaching at the high school level, Benson became a qualified, professional guide and has been leading safaris for over 25 years. Benson loves to delight participants with his tremendous knowledge of African wildlife and local cultures, and he has a keen eye for spotting wildlife of all sizes, as well as identifying birds. He also has a passion for photography and has been known to educate participants on how to get the most out of their pictures while in the bush. Benson has been named one of “The Best 15 Safari Guides” in the Condé Nast Traveler magazine, and in 2004, appeared on live television as the professional guide on “The Today Show: Where in the World is Matt Lauer?” He is also featured in the authoritative book "Licensed to Guide," by Susie Cazenove.

Lisa Reed

Lisa Reed was born in Zimbabwe, spent her school years in South Africa, and now lives in Botswana. She has worked or visited most Southern and East African safari destinations, and has managed safari camps on her own and with others since being in Botswana. Lisa has a natural affinity with children and enjoys passing on her years of experience and knowledge to the next generation. She has been leading safaris for Road Scholar for more than nine years.

Group Leaders

Group Leaders make sure your program runs smoothly and are attuned to the needs of Road Scholar participants. These Group Leaders are participating on at least one day of one date of this program.

Helen Malisan

Helen Malisan’s passion for exploration began in high school when she visited Italy, her ancestral country. After completing her final year at school, she immediately joined South African Airways where she worked for 10 years. In 1993, her love for nature and South Africa inspired her to complete the necessary courses to become a wilderness excursion leader, spurring her career as a safari leader in Namibia and Zambia. Helen says her interest in people, nature and animals inspires her work.
