I traveled with a carry-on and a backpack and had no problems. I feel that schlepping a big suitcase takes away from my enjoyment of the trip.

Warren Metzger Jan 19, 2015 at 05:11 PM

I have a couple of questions. The first is whether there are any restrictions on how much our luggage weighs or size restrictions because we are on two flights that may be on small planes with cramped overhead restrictions. Another program that features a similar itinerary specifically mentions that you have to size down your luggage when you board the flight in Buenos Aires.

The other question is the Los Acebos Hotel, Ushuaia is CLOSED according to a few very recent posts in Trip Adviser. Anyone know what the substitute hotel may be?

Thanks!

Warren

Call RS and ask them.

Thanks Barbara for the quick response. Will check out the New balance shoes. I am going prepared for all sorts of weather.
Linda Norby Jan 12, 2015 at 03:50 PM

You will not wear them in the cities, but I was very glad to have my hiking boots on the ship and in Torres del Paine. Take warm socks, two pairs of warm gloves(they get wet), a warm hat, rain gear including waterproof pants for the Zodiaks. It the trip of a lifetime. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! P.S. The hotel in Santigo has a rooftop pool.

Sorry Santiago.

Jean Jalufka Jan 12, 2015 at 02:32 PM

Would like to know whether hiking boots vs hiking shoes are best for this trip. Looking at the daily activities it appears it is more walking than hiking. Would like to hear from someone who has been on this trip. Thanks
Barbara Stratton Jan 12, 2015 at 03:12 PM

Hi Jean--I went to Patagonia with Tauck, not Road Scholar. I wore New Balance WW978 (you can Google that and see the picture). The weather is EXTREMELY CHANGEABLE. You need to consider cold and rain (regardless of time of year!). The New Balance shoes were so incredibly comfortable that I wore them on the 11 hour plane flight home! Barbara S.

Does anyone know when the 2016 trips "Finis Terrae" are going to be announced?

Pam Arsenault Oct 23, 2014 at 09:58 AM

Hi. Is anyone looking at the October 15, 2015, trip date? I'm seriously considering this trip and would like to meet others who might be joining it. Thanks, Pam Arsenault

Patricia McNeill Jan 13, 2014 at 06:01 PM

Hi! My name is Pat. I will be arriving a day early (2/27th instead of 28th) on Aeromexico about 11:15am. If anyone else is arriving around that time maybe we could travel to the hotel together.

Linda Norby Jan 07, 2014 at 08:42 AM

Hi, Everyone. I am going on Finis Terrae beginning March 21, but I'm arriving early. Would like to hear from other participants who will be arriving early. I have several books which I would give away to someone who would pay the postage from Chicago: In Patagonia by Chatwin, Uttermost Part of the World by Bridges, Dusk on the Campo by Tabernacle, and Voyaging Southward from the Strait of Magellan by Kent. All very good reads!
