I live at sea level and have been hearing worrying things about altitude sickness at 7000 ft. Anyone have any ideas?
Susan Nov 03, 2015 at 08:31 AM

I think there was something in the material about that, Linda.
Linda Arthur Nov 03, 2015 at 10:47 AM

Diamox is suggested my doc will give me a script just in case

Don't drink carbonated beverages or alcohol until you've been at that altitude a while also helps. I've been walking hard to get heart rate up per recommendation from my daughter who has some experience with such things.
Linda Arthur Nov 04, 2015 at 05:40 PM

I don't drink alcohol or soda so I should be ok. I have been trying to get out for a walk on beach everyday

Susan Oct 30, 2015 at 11:23 AM

Hi, Fellow Travellers. Going on first RS trip to Santa Fe 11/9 and want to connect. What are you bringing for clothes? Obsessing in Florida!

Sharon Darr Oct 28, 2015 at 09:42 AM

This trip to Santa Fe will be my 8 or 9th Road Scholar trip. Others have been programs for hiking, biking, kayaking, photography...and all have been absolutely wonderful. I'm coming from Michigan and am looking forward to the Santa Fe/Taos experience. I don't usually fly and am thinking and rethinking what I need to pack. I travel alone, finding it most rewarding to meet other participants. To the first-timers... you'll love it - Road Scholar takes great care of you. I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Sharon D.
Susan Oct 30, 2015 at 11:22 AM

Thanks. What about clothes! I'm driving myself crazy!
Sharon Darr Oct 30, 2015 at 03:39 PM

No worries! I might be the worst person to advise others what clothes to bring! I have all the hiking, biking, photography equipment...but this program seems 'nicer.' I'm bringing black pants, jeans, various tops, a couple scarves, and VERY comfortable shoes. Truth is, nobody cares. Be comfortable, be yourself, have fun, be happy! My suitcase is open and I will begin the putting-in and taking-out, then reversing my choices! Lol!! (You know, I can't see what I wrote to check for type-so issues! Hate that! ;-)
Sharon Darr Oct 30, 2015 at 03:43 PM

Remember, average temps are in the 60s, so bring layers...a jacket or sweater.
Susan Oct 30, 2015 at 04:07 PM

Thanks, Sharon. I think I'm on the right track then. Rolled clothes, booing i wouldn't need the really big bag and so far, so good! :-)
Susan Oct 30, 2015 at 04:08 PM

Hoping, not booing. :-)
Linda Arthur Nov 02, 2015 at 09:06 PM

Weather.com has an alert, temps dropping to 45-50 day and 25-30 at night so I guess I am layering
Susan Nov 02, 2015 at 09:57 PM

Thanks, Linda. Me, too#

I noticed it has been cooler in Santa Fe than here in Michigan! I'm still bringing a bathing suit for an evening in the hot tub! I have a very lightweight, easy-pack down jacket that should work in cooler temps. I think the altitude plays a huge part in the lower temps. I am envious, Susan, if you can get away without a big bag! I need lessons...
Linda Arthur Nov 03, 2015 at 07:25 AM

Swim suit never travel without one. I have a very lightweight down jacket too, space bags here we come. I am packing a larger suitcase to bring home all the things I might buy!!
Susan Nov 03, 2015 at 08:29 AM

Hmmm. Guess I'll bring a swim suit too. Rethinking the BIG bag, too. :-)
Sharon Darr Nov 03, 2015 at 10:21 AM

See? It's the rethinking that'll do you in every time! Good idea to have space for treasures to take home! Looking forward to meeting you both
