I will be attending the Sept. 20 - 25 hike. Cab service from Newark Airport to Shawnee Inn is $170 plus tolls Anyone know of other options other than renting a car? The Shawnee Inn suggested the Pocono Cab service. It's like buying another plane ticket.

Sara, when I spoke with the concierge at the Shawnee Inn in early August they also said there is a bus company (Martz Trailways) that goes from the Newark airport to a bus stop about two miles from the resort. I ended up deciding to drive in from Minnesota so didn't check out prices or schedules. I hope that helps. I look forward to meeting you!

Thank you, Paula! I did not speak with the concierge when I called but I will call them again. Thanks much! Looking forward to meeting you as well.

Didn't mean to repost that, sorry! I may have misspoken about the bus coming from Newark. It looks like it departs from various points in Manhattan, so you might need to take a train from Newark to Manhattan to catch the bus. Hope this pans out for you!

I have been doing a little checking and it is a bit of a convoluted journey. There is a bus from the airport but it would not be a straight shot to the Inn. Might just stick with the cab. We'll see - it's all part of the adventure! Thanks again for your help.

I'm registered for the September 20-25 hike! This will be my first RS program. I'm coming in from Minneapolis, Minnesota and looking forward to it!

I will be attending the September 20th hike. Does anyone have any information on what area, other than the AT, the hike will be on for day five?

Sara Oehlert Jul 06, 2015 at 01:15 PM

I will be attending the Sept. 20 Appalachian Trail program. I am flying into Newark from St. Louis. What is the best way to get to the Shawnee Inn from there?
Laurel Rice Jul 07, 2015 at 09:35 AM

There is a car, taxi you can get. Call hotel, see what they suggest. There is no simple way. Renting a car I think is costly unless you have a special way

I have recently registered for the Sept 13 - 18 Hike the Appalachian Trail trip. Anyone else who is planning to do this trip, lets connect here, we probably have questions in common.

I am interested in near term---12 April Date---but wonder, will I actually be able to complete a large section of the appalachian trail, or is this just intended as short day hikes, unconnected---I just did a couple of days' near Carlisle and would like to do those of the trail in Pennsylvania,,,so am looking for group(s) to do that with.

I've signed up for the May 10 trip. This will be my first Road Scholar program and I'm really looking forward to it. Anybody else signed up for this one?
Laurie Choate Mar 01, 2015 at 03:12 PM

Hey Donna. I'm thinking about the May 10th trip. Do you know anyone going?
Donna Britton Mar 01, 2015 at 04:59 PM

Hi Laurie. Good to hear from you. I do not know anyone. This is my first experience with the Road Scholar program. I am expecting to be with others who enjoy hiking as much as I do.
