I am doing back-to-back trips: Ireland North to South 9/14/15 to 10/01/15; Walking the Hill Towns of Umbria 10/02/15 to 10/10/15. Is anyone else coming to Rome a day early?

Donna DeCesare Jul 02, 2015 at 03:33 PM

I am taking to back-to-back trips: Walking the Hill Towns of Umbria - 9/11/15 to 9/19/15; Hiking the Cinque Terre - 9/19/15 to 9/27/15. Is anyone else doing this? If so, have you made arrangements to get to the second location?
John Schwartz Jul 09, 2015 at 11:35 AM

I an not doing those particular trips, but am going independently to Cinque Terre after the Umbria trip. I am taking the train from Foligno to Monterosso.
Donna DeCesare Jul 10, 2015 at 07:21 AM

John, Thanks for your note. Will you have a Eur-Rail pass or will you simply purchase a ticket for the trip?
John Schwartz Jul 10, 2015 at 12:58 PM

Point to point ticket with changes in Florence and Pisa.

The walks were not particularly hard and were usually around 5 miles per day, sometimes less. We generally walked more in the morning and then had a leisurely and wonderful lunch, followed primarily by sightseeing in one of the hill towns. It was a great trip to a less frequented and crowded but very beautiful part of Italy.

Marilyn Mehr Apr 16, 2015 at 07:21 PM

I don't recall walking any more than 5 miles a day and usually there were ample breaks to rest and restore. It's a glimpse into another Italy, quieter and more peaceful. Go!

Terrence Sjoreen Apr 16, 2015 at 01:37 PM

Looks like a great trip, but how much walking is involved?. For example on Day 4, does the group walk all the way from Foligno to Montefalco and back, about 15 mile by my reckoning?
Margery (Marge) Miller Apr 16, 2015 at 02:33 PM

I went in 10/2013, but can assure you there were no walks of 15 miles. I would say no longer than 7 miles. There are vehicles that assist w/the transportation, everyone was very helpful. I did use one walking stick .
Terrence Sjoreen May 01, 2015 at 10:51 AM

Thank you Margery (and Jane and Marilyn above) for your replies. My wife and I have decided to enroll in the program.

It's a wonderful way to see a quieter part of Italy. The Tuscan hills are beautiful, the food outstanding and the culture intriguiging. You'll love it!

I am so looking forward to this, my first RS trip. Happy 2015 to my trip companions.

Jane..we are going on this trip Oct.3 also leaving from JFK. Is that the trip to which you are referring? We are from Chicago and starting to get pretty excited about it. We have been to the region before so we already know how beautiful it is but it is our first time with RS.

Bette & Caesar--we took this trip in May and had a wonderful time. The weather was mostly sunny and cool, great for walking. We generally walked a lot in the morning, winding up at a great destination for lunch. Meals were terrific, especially the lunches. Our guide Tiziana and our walk guide Catherine were both wonderful. I hope you have weather as beautiful as we did! Enjoy the trip.
