Just came back from this trip and it was wonderful. Would love to do it all over again. Any of you planning to take it has a very special time ahead of you. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. It was truly a fantastic experience -- a trip of a lifetime.

Joanne Fulton Jan 29, 2015 at 08:10 PM

i am taking Atovaquone-Proguanil.

Joanne Fulton Jan 29, 2015 at 01:07 PM

i will leave whatever teaching materials i bring. Also will be taking the malaria pills. I have encountered mosquitos in the past in India, in Delhi.
Judy Haber Jan 29, 2015 at 07:55 PM

which pill?

Judy Haber Jan 28, 2015 at 03:00 PM

Hi to those on Feb 4 trip. We are coming after you on Feb 17. We will bring and buy materials also, but hope you will leave us the remainder of your stuff when you leave. Every little bit helps. Question for all: Are any of you planning to take malaria prevention medication? The person who went last year said he did not take pills and was fine. Said there were no mosquitos because it is desert. Just curious as to what the rest of you think.
Andrea Mitchel Jan 28, 2015 at 06:45 PM

I am taking malaria pills I also got a typhoid vaccine low risk tolerance here

Joanne Fulton Jan 26, 2015 at 09:14 AM

i am from Columbia Missouri. I arrive in Delhi on the 4th so may be on the same flight out of JFK as Andrea. Glad we are all bringing some materials to help with the teaching. i am looking forward to the trip too.
Andrea Mitchel Jan 26, 2015 at 10:29 AM

I am flying direct from Chicago I think I arrive around for the 4:15 pick up at the Delhi airport so possibly we will meet there

Joanne Fulton Jan 25, 2015 at 05:53 PM

Hi, i am on the 4 Feb. trip too. Just ordered some English/Hindi books and small crossword books from Amazon. Buying supplies in Delhi sounds like a good idea. Also emailed Alan Lawson to encourage more ideas. Thought his letter was very helpful.
Gloria Friedman Jan 25, 2015 at 06:08 PM

I did too. Andrea and I just bought a few English/Hindi books at a bookstore in chicago; some flash cards and a map of the United States. We'll buy the rest in India. Getting very excited about the trip.
Gloria Friedman Jan 25, 2015 at 06:12 PM

Joanne-- where are you from? Are you arriving with the group? I get there a day ahead -- my friend, Andrea, will be getting there on the 4th. We are both from Chicago. Where are you from?

Linda Bunge Jan 22, 2015 at 05:28 PM

Hi, I am Sam, Linda's husband. We are on the 4 Feb. group. As for teaching materials, rather than haul books and pencils across the Pacific, we will find a bookstore in New Delhi and buy readers and notebooks there, then haul to Jaipur on the train. Any thoughts?
Andrea Mitchel Jan 22, 2015 at 05:44 PM

Gloria and I are going to visit a teaching store in Chicago and also a Hindi/English store in an Indian neighborhood in Chicago. I plan to bring lots of pictures of my life in Chicago along with maps and other information about my life
Andrea Mitchel Jan 22, 2015 at 05:46 PM

I have a scrabble type game in a banana case I am going to bring that and maybe flash cards. I have a big suitcase I'm not bringing a huge amount of clothes
Gloria Friedman Jan 22, 2015 at 06:06 PM

Sam-- Andrea already told you some of our plans. I don't think we'll buy a huge amount here but if we can find good stuff that connects to Chicago or the US we will' I do think it makes sense for the group to go to a store together to buy supplies etc. Someone who was on the trip last year said we should buy things like paper and pencils in Kalaw itself which makes sense since it's also keeping money in the village.

Does anyone know about trains from Jaipur to Delhi?
Linda Bunge Dec 21, 2014 at 10:57 PM

Try seat61.com (lots of general information about train travel in India) and indianrail.gov.in (the official gov't website for rail travel, but I found it very confusing until I had read about trains in India on other sites. Seat61was the most complete that I found.

Thanks, Linda. My program (March 2015) got cancelled by Road Scholar. I would love to stay in touch and hear about your experiences when you return. I will try again in 2016.
