Anyone on the Air France flight 017 to Paris on the 15th of September for the Alsace Lorraine barge trip? Would like to meet in waiting area.

Candace Leslie Aug 18, 2015 at 10:55 AM

Strasboug - Sept 15 - 24; Independent Paris - Sept 25 - Oct. 3.
Is anyone else doing this back-to-back combination? If so, would love to be in touch.

Candace Leslie Aug 17, 2015 at 05:36 PM

Is anyone else planning to attend "independent Paris" following the barge trip?

Ann Baines Aug 15, 2015 at 02:08 PM

Looking forward to meeting fellow travelers on the Sept 14, 2015 trip. It's coming up!

Kathleen Fulchiron Jul 26, 2015 at 01:28 PM

I am enrolled for this trip in fall 2016. Just wondering how the travel arrangements go smoothly I am going solo.
Peter Griffin Jul 26, 2015 at 06:10 PM

Usual 5 star Roads Scholar trip - you'll get to know your fellow travers quickly as the barge is just for Roads Scholars.

Also - see my post re high speed train frm Paris to and from Strasburg. I suggest the train vice the plane.

Laura Gruen Aug 15, 2014 at 04:39 PM

I am enrolled in the program September 16-25. Is anyone else from that departure online? My traveling companion and I are from West Chester, PA, outside of Philadelphia. I am a walker and especially happy to see that we can walk the paths along the canal.
Joan Gruen Aug 17, 2014 at 08:56 PM

Is this Laura Miller Gruen? You will encounter lovely views as you walk or you can use a bike as many of my fellow passengers did. Happy travels. Joan Gruen (Mrs. David)

It is, indeed. Nice to hear from you, Joan, and to know that you enjoyed the trip. Hope all is well with your family.

We enjoyed it very much. Food on the barge was excellent; Strasburg is a very interesting combo of old and new. Although RS sent us by air from Paris to Strasburg we found out there is a high speed train available which we would like to have used... roomier and probably almost as quick. If that sounds interesting you might see if RS would route you that way.
Candace Leslie Aug 21, 2015 at 09:58 PM

Sure wish RS gave the train as an option. Found out too late to change.

Ms. Cloe - RE: Walking / biking along the canal. The barge stops at each lock so you can get off or on. The locks are not uniformly spaced but are not far apart; the crew can tell you how far it is to the next lock. Biking will get you to the next lock WAY ahead of the barge; walking speed is about the same as barge speed. It is a very leisurely pace.
Judith Cloe Aug 11, 2014 at 10:57 AM

Thanks Peter! Any other words of wisdom based on your experiences would be much appreciated.
