ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Elroy, likely will be in the 50's during the day and freezing early morning. Wear warm to drop layers during the day.

Elroy Haverlah Apr 17, 2014 at 02:42 PM

I'm going on the Sept. 28-Oct 3 program. Anyone have an idea as to the average temperature during that time?

David O'Connor Mar 09, 2014 at 04:48 PM

Hi Joe and all going on the May trip. My wife Mary & I are in Raleigh, NC and driving out west in our Prius ("ouch")so we can go to Mount Rushmore. Staying for the second week too. Who else is coming? Dave

Kathleen Coggeshall Dec 09, 2013 at 01:49 PM

Just signed up for the May program...I am traveling from Massachusetts..would love to hear from anyone else going in May!
Joe Sina Jan 23, 2014 at 10:13 AM

I'm traveling from CT for the May trip and will also be solo. The flights are $250 cheaper if I come in Sat, so thinking about getting in a day early and hiking Sunday before registration. Anyone else coming in early that wants to wander around taking pix on Sunday?
Kathleen Coggeshall Jan 23, 2014 at 01:45 PM

Joe, Hi. I ended up changing to the September trip because I wanted to go to the Earthfire Institute. I haven't looked at flights yet...sorry we're not going at the same time, I would have met up with you!
Kathleen Coggeshall Jan 23, 2014 at 01:48 PM

I also switched to the Yellowstone/Tetons combo trip.....which included the earthfire institute!
Joe Sina Jan 24, 2014 at 07:58 AM

That sounds interesting. I hadn't heard about Earthfire. I'm sticking with May to learn about photography, and I have another trip planned in Sept to Ethiopia. Maybe we'll see each other on another Road Scholar trip

Kathleen Coggeshall Nov 27, 2013 at 01:17 PM

Looking at the May program but am travelling solo...not crazy about sharing a room and only double rooms are available. Has anyone had experience in sharing a room?
Helene Rothstein Nov 27, 2013 at 01:41 PM

Kathleen, I did this program last May and paid the extra to have the room to myself. The rooms were very spacious, with 2 queen beds, and the sinks were separate from the toilet/shower, so I think sharing might not be as bad as you think. I snore, so prefer not to subject anyone else to that! It's a great trip!

Ernest Jung May 01, 2013 at 02:30 PM

We're thinking of going in September. Any comments about the accommodations from those of you have gone on this trip? How is the weather at that time of year? Is anyone else considering going then?
Helen Sternheim May 01, 2013 at 02:59 PM

Weather should still be pretty warm. I haveno idea where you are staying, it should be on the RS web site.

Helene Rothstein Apr 07, 2013 at 11:28 AM

Yellowstone is only 6 weeks away. Would love to hear from some other participants. Is anyone else arriving on the 12th and taking the shuttle? Is anyone else traveling from NY/East Coast? I'm getting very excited about this adventure!

Helene Rothstein Jan 16, 2013 at 09:17 AM

I'm going in May. Is anyone else going then?
Marilyn Perry Jan 23, 2013 at 07:18 PM

I signed up for the May program today. You say this is your first RS trip. Welcome to RS!
Helene Rothstein Feb 05, 2013 at 09:01 AM

Marilyn, are you arriving on May 12? My flight arrives in Bozeman at 1:00 that day. I expect to take the "shuttle" to the site. How about you?
Marilyn Perry Feb 05, 2013 at 10:27 PM

I am only taking the shuttle after the program.
Marilyn Perry Feb 05, 2013 at 10:31 PM

I received a letter from Road Scholar announcing that our instructor is Meg Sommers. I looked up her website. Her photos are beautiful and her previous students praise her teaching abilities. Makes me very excited about this program.
Helene Rothstein Feb 05, 2013 at 11:48 PM

Is there another option for getting TO the program site?
Marilyn Perry Feb 06, 2013 at 01:08 PM

The University of Montana Western post below states that the ways TO the program site are shuttle or car. I am getting a ride with my roommate, and we are doing a little sightseeing before the program.
Marilyn Perry Feb 06, 2013 at 01:11 PM

My experience with RS is that you will enjoy the shuttle to the site because there will be other Road Scholars on the shuttle. My experience is that Road Scholars are a very friendly, congenial group of people, and you will enjoy getting acquainted.
Helene Rothstein Feb 06, 2013 at 02:08 PM

Thanks for the info, and the reassurance! Looking forward to making lots of new friends.
