Road Scholar
Program #15893RJ
13 Days | 12 Nights
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

I am wondering if the double occupancy can be configured as two twin beds on this trip?
David Owens Mar 01, 2015 at 11:52 AM

Last September we took this trip, in "Accommodation 2." The beds were already configured as two (narrow) twin beds.
Maria Walsh Mar 01, 2015 at 12:11 PM

Thank you for your response David, did you enjoy the trip?
David Owens Mar 01, 2015 at 02:29 PM

Maria - Yes! We found the countryside and cities delightful, the cuisine superb, and the coordinator well organized and informative.

We are on the trip startin Sept 6, 2014. Just looking to connect with any other people!

I was on the identical trip last fall, and found it was of the great trips I have taken with Road Scholar. Be prepared to have sme great food on the cruise, washed down with as much good Portuguese wine as you can drink, and to have fascinating insights into the history, culture, and economy of Portugal. Helena Balthazar is one of the most delightful nd knowledgable tour guides I have ever had. I envy you, and wish I were doing the trip again!

We are going on 9/6 also out of Philly. We have done other river boat trips . The best way to travel. See you there
Richard Kreisel Aug 19, 2014 at 05:00 PM

See you there - we fly thru JFK and Madrid to Porto

Kenneth Nelson Sep 25, 2013 at 08:28 PM

Thinking about this trip as we like river boat cruising. Airfare from SFO is quite expensive, so having second thoughts.

Douglas Bracy Jul 29, 2013 at 05:35 PM

Anyone signed up for the Douro River trip leaving Porto on October 19th? I'm traveling by myself and will be spending 4 days in Madrid first. Retired college professor and avid Road Scholar, I enjoy hearing from anyone else on this trip.
Judith Rhoades Oct 09, 2013 at 06:46 PM

Still going? There's three of us singles from Baltimore going. In addition to many intergenerational international trips, I have done, Food and Wine in Spain, Crossing from Chile into Patagonia, and the best....Bhutan!
Douglas Bracy Oct 09, 2013 at 07:01 PM

Hi Judith, Yes! I'm still going! Fly from Miami to Madrid Oct. 15th, then Madrid - Porto Oct 20th. I spent most of my adult life in Washington-Baltimore area, so it will be nice to meet you. I plan to drink mucho vino inboth countries - sounds like you have experience doing the same! Are you flying from BWI? Any pre/post Road Scholar travels?
Richard Hanson Sep 22, 2014 at 04:49 PM

Hi Judith & Douglas - Linda and I are a couple from Tucson who will be joining you on the trip. We've done 4 service projects with RS but never a regular program. Our flight into Porto just got changed so hope we make it for the first gathering! See you in Portugal, Rick
