Thank you all for your information. We'll try lookinig elsewhere with less walking.

I was in the May 15th group. Some other things for you to research. European hotels and tour groups do not have the handicapped accessible features that are required in the US. For example, no grab bars in the bathrooms, tiny elevators, retrofitted bathrooms with 6-12 inch steps up to the shower/tub, no curb cuts etc. Large cruise ships stop at LeHavre, and have wheelchair accessible shore excursions.

A question to someone who's taken this trip already: will an electric wheelchair or a walker work on the battlefield tour, especially the beaches? Also, does the riverboat have an elevator? Stairs are extremely difficult for my husband but this trip is a dream of his.

Ask RS if you can contact the guide for that trip or can the guide call you.

We took this trip in Sept. 2014. To be frank, I don't think it would be feasible or enjoyable for a person with a wheelchair or walker. So much of this trip involves walking over uneven surfaces. I do not think the ship had an elevator. I would discuss it with Road Scholar. I think Viking ships have elevators and they do offer a Normandy trip. I don't think it's in nearly the depth of the RS trip but it could make it feasible for you. You could contact the D Day Museum in Caen about any guided tours they offer for those with mobility issues.

I took the May 15 to 28 trip and would not recommend for somone who needed a walker or wheel chair, The ship we were on, MS Seine Princess had no elevator, narrow carridors and limited cabin room. Also, at at least one stop we had to walk up a ramp to the ship from shore and then down stairs to the main deck. There was a lot of on/off busses and walking on uneven ground.

We took this tour in September 2014. Don't worry about the hotels. Road Scholar will see to it that everything goes great. Forget the wifi on the ship. Sit on the bow of the ship with a cappuccino and watch France go by. That was my favorite part of the trip.
Fred Bowman Apr 17, 2015 at 08:05 PM

My interest in wifi is solely to be available if I need updates on my ill 95 year old mother. Otherwise, I would be right there but with my wine.
Gregory Osborne Apr 18, 2015 at 03:31 PM

In that case, Fred, get up early in the morning and go into the lounge with your device. I was sometimes able to get online if no one else was also trying.

I agree with Margaret! I've been on TEN RS trips. Only one had moments of questionable quality. My wife and I did the Beaches to Paris in Oct 2012 without taking any technology! We did NOT miss the techie equipment. This is an OUTSTANDING trip, Our mistake: we should have extended our stay in Paris!

Margaret Prentice Apr 16, 2015 at 08:45 PM

I envy you all having this experience in May. Having done one Road Scholar trip, this one, I have confidence that any changes are for the better. RS wants you to have a terrific time. Don't lose any sleep over the Wifi. Simple adjust that it's not going to be like home. Have a super time!
Fred Bowman Apr 17, 2015 at 08:09 PM

As I posted above--don't care about wifi except for possible need for updates on my ill 95 year old mother.

Fred Bowman Apr 16, 2015 at 08:32 PM

Does not appear as though hotel in Caen has wifi and ship is minimal
Kathy Blatt Apr 17, 2015 at 11:34 AM

I looked at the 2 new hotels yesterday on line. Neither is in Caen. The first night we are at Novotel near Bayeux and the other 4 nights we are at Trouville sur Mer which is between Honfleur and Caen on the coast. There is a MacDonalds in Trouville.. Harry will be looking for WIFI, so just follow him. The Paris hotel is the same as the one changed in March.

Fred Bowman Apr 16, 2015 at 08:26 PM

WE are on Delta 96 from Pittsburgh. Anybody else? Any idea why hotels have all been changed?
Kathleen Cottingham Apr 17, 2015 at 12:32 PM

What time do you arrive in Paris? I arrive at 8:10 on Delta from Atlanta.
Fred Bowman Apr 17, 2015 at 08:07 PM

8:35. Looking forward to meeting you!

Kathleen Cottingham Apr 13, 2015 at 02:44 PM

Kitty Cottingham Flying out of Atlanta on the 15th of May on Delta arriving Paris at 8:10. Is anyone else on that flight. My home is Colorado.

Kathy Blatt Apr 14, 2015 at 09:18 AM

Harry Stewart and I live in Arvada, but we will not be leaving from Colorado. We leave on May 1 for a transatlantic cruise ending in Barcelona. We will fly into Paris to meet the group. Where do you live?
Kathleen Cottingham Apr 17, 2015 at 12:30 PM

I live in a retirement community in Highlands Ranch. Have done a number of Road Scholar trips and loved everyone of them. It isn't quite as much fun by yourself but I'm not ready to give up traveling.
