Jenny and Bob Redfern are enrolled for the Culinary Tour beginning Sept. 12 in Venice. We would appreciate hearing from anyone who has already taken this tour, and from others taking the 9/12 tour. We have heard that it is very hot in northern Italy this summer - any news on what to expect in September?

Jacinta Marschke Aug 02, 2015 at 12:00 PM

Also I am going to Rome for several days following the tour. Is anyone else considering the same and taking the train from Florence to Rome?

Jacinta Marschke Aug 02, 2015 at 11:59 AM

Is there anyone else going on the 9/12/15/culinary tour to Italy?

Jenny Redfern May 29, 2015 at 03:15 PM

We are interested in the Culinary Tour but want to know if the included cooking class is really hands-on or only a demo. Does anyone know?

We will be participating in the Sept. 2014 Culinary Italy program. We are also extending our stay a couple of days in between programs and are wondering if anyone else is doing likewise. We look forward to meeting our group.

I will be taking the Sept. 2014 Culinary Tour and will be a single traveler departing from Chicago. All past experiences with Road Scholar have been great, so I look forward to meeting our group. Gloria Keats, May 13,0l:15 PM

I'm considering the Culinary Tour in September 2014. I've never been to Venice and was thinking about adding a day or two at the beginning of the trip. An afternoon in that city feels like a tease. Anyone interested in joining me?
Steve Bottorff Jun 03, 2014 at 07:47 AM

By all means take the extra day(s). We stayed two days at Agriturisimo Ca Beatrice to get over jetlag and have a full day in Venice. Ca Beatrice is 5 min from the airport so easy to take their shuttle back to meet the group, and a 20 bus ricde into Venice.
Steve Bottorff Jun 03, 2014 at 07:54 AM

Our guide did modify the schedule to take a full day in Venice but it was mostly walking tour and little time on the Grand Canal. I suggest the 18 Euro all day pass to cover the bus and the vaporetti water bus. The hotel will take you to the bus stop and explain how to buy the pass at the tobacco shop. From the Venice bus stop make sure you take the vaporetti in the right direction. Other wise you take the gritter route outside the island. The RS water taxi will take that route because it is faster but you want the views. Take the local. Read Rick Steves for more details.

We are going on the Culinary Italy tour that starts on May 13, 2014. We would like to hear from our fellow travelers.
Janet Heller Apr 04, 2014 at 11:58 AM

Hello we are looking forward to the tour also. We are four travelers from Northern California.

Greetings from Sarasota! We arrive one day early to try to shake the jet lag. Tonight we are boning up on a culinary video of Northern Italy. We are adding three nights in Florence to see the city. Do you speak any Italian? .
