Nancy McKinley
I am also interested in whether we can borrow or rent hiking poles. I have a very tight air connection and would prefer to just bring carry on luggage. I asked the airlines and they won't allow them as carry on--dangerous weapons!
Nancy Serna May 23, 2015 at 11:15 AM

Yes they have poles to lend you. I recommend the use of poles.
Nancy McKinley May 23, 2015 at 06:02 PM

Thanks so very much!! I use them all the time--trip is short so I can do carry on and save on baggage fees!

Pam Palasz May 04, 2015 at 11:01 PM

On other hiking trips, we've brought our own poles if we wanted them.

Ann Russell Apr 05, 2015 at 05:59 PM

Will hiking poles be provided or shall we bring our own?
Janet Zinn Apr 27, 2015 at 07:07 AM

Good question. I hope someone in the know weighs in. I'm not use to them, but will learn how if they help me stay upright and they're not too cumbersome.
Nancy Serna May 07, 2015 at 12:33 PM

I recommend the use of poles. Some hiking "stairs" can be challenging.

Anyone going on the August 10-16 trip? 2 couples flying from Chicago on the 9th. Hope to see comments from those going in June and July. Thanks
Nancy Serna Jun 29, 2014 at 04:00 PM

Arriving from SFO august 9th, staying one night at the Bow Valley Inn Calgary, will meet the shuttle at the airport on August 10th.

has anyone gotten any feedback/ack from the company that is actually doing the trip on the food/pickup form? I sent via email 2 times and have had no reply. I would like to get an emergency number for pickup in case there is some problem finding the pickup people.
Marilyn Garcia Jun 24, 2014 at 10:31 PM

I was wondering the same thing. I sent the form via email 2 weeks ago and asked for confirmation, but I have not received a reply.
Robert Grimes Jun 26, 2014 at 09:50 AM

I faxed the company a note asking to reply. I got a reply almost immediately to an email I sent about a month ago with all the info and an appology.
Robert Grimes Jun 26, 2014 at 09:51 AM

BTW: the fax number was at the bottom of the transportation/meal form. It is a company in Canda, not RoadsScholar

Robert Grimes Jun 04, 2014 at 06:33 PM

My wife and I will be taking the trip July 20-26 from Phoenix.
Nancy Serna Jun 05, 2014 at 12:38 PM

Our trip is in august. please continue to post regarding your experience.
Jane Black Jun 26, 2014 at 05:57 PM

My husband Rob and I will be on the July 20 trip. We are arriving midday on the 20th from New York.
Nancy Serna Jun 29, 2014 at 04:06 PM

We are taking the August 10th trip. So excited. Let us know how it went/,& were you prepared for the weather? we are from Northern California, our weather is very hot this time of year. when we hike in the Sierra we are often in shirt sleeves. I hope we are emotionally prepared for much colder climate.
Robert Grimes Jun 30, 2014 at 10:24 AM

Right now our lows are much higher than the highs we will see on the trip. I probably will need long underwear for the night!!!!
Nancy Serna Jul 25, 2014 at 04:56 PM

Robert, how was your trip? Was the weather bearable?
Nancy Serna Jul 25, 2014 at 04:56 PM

Robert, how was your trip? Was the weather bearable?
Robert Grimes Jul 26, 2014 at 07:56 AM

You need to be prepared for anything. The previous trip was very warm for summer. Our trip was more typical. We started Monday with rain showers for the first hour of the hike. The weather cleared for the rest of the day. Theursday resized much of the hike and poured when we got done. The last day was thr and s
Robert Grimes Jul 26, 2014 at 07:57 AM

The last day was spitting rain but was very windy at the top and cold. Bring layers as I changed many times.
Jane Black Jul 27, 2014 at 09:41 AM

Be sure to have good gloves and a warm hat. You might not need them, but we certainly did the last day for the Sentinel Pass hike. The views were spectacular, though!

Will already be in Calgary and am looking for a ride out to Canmore on Sunday July 13th. If anyone would like some company, please let me know. Otherwise, I will look for a bus. Arlene956@gmail.com
Nancy Serna Jun 05, 2014 at 12:44 PM

Arlene: check yur travel documents, there is the number of the transportation company, they pick up at the airport, but you have to make arrangements in advance.
Arlene Weinsier Jun 05, 2014 at 02:57 PM

Thank you Nancy. I also say that and it is included in our tour if you take the particular one they book. If you go at a different time, you are on your own. I'm coming the week before to spend some time with my daughter who lives in Calgary.
Nancy Serna Jun 05, 2014 at 03:20 PM

I did find a greyhound bus depot in Calgary, I'll bet they travel out to Canmore. All other transportation seems to leave, only, from the airport.
