ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.

My wife, Nancy, and I (Frank) are on the Sept 16 trip on the Vita. We are living in Saratoga springs, NY and also have a place at Lake George. Doing the extension afterward as well as arriving in Dubrovnik a couple of days early. Were in Dubrovnik in 1990 just before the war and loved it! Looking to engage with fellow travelers - also any tips others have who have been on this tour.

If you want to walk the wall go very early. Once the cruise ships arrive each morning, the wall is a crowded thoroughfare. The other option is after they leave -- about 4pm each day.

We just got back from a great trip on the Vita. It was a great ship with a great crew. You will enjoy it. We had planned to go on the extension but it was cancelled because of too few people. We went by ourselves to Zagreb and enjoyed it. I note that the extension goes to Varazdin, which was the subject of a page long article in today's Travel Section of the New York Times. It would be a good article to read before your trip.

Some critical comments have been made about the hotel in Split. Road Scholar obviously paid attention to this and changed the hotel. We stayed at the new hotel, the Cornaro Hotel, and it was excellent in all regards. Also there were questions about wine on the boat. On the Vita, there was wine and beer (one glass)free at lunch and dinner. Finally, there was pretty good WIFI on the Vita most of the time, even when the vessel was underway.

In April 2014, we were perfectly happy with the hotel in Split; clean and easy to walk to and from. It's easy to forget that this is Road Scholar, formerly Elderhostel and not a pricey commercial tour.

Anyone know whether you need an AC/DC adapter on the ship or in the hotels?
Frank Bagon May 23, 2015 at 09:08 PM

Yes you will need an adapter on the ship and hotels, everywhere in Croatia.
Charles Routh May 29, 2015 at 06:11 PM

You will need an adaptor but it is not an AC/DC adaptor. It is an adaptor from the flat plugs used in the US to the round plugs used in most of Europe. Note the difference between an adaptor for the type of plug to a "converter" which converts between the 220 volts used in Croatia and most of Europe and the 110 volts used in the US. A converter is only required in something which uses head such as hair curlers, some hair dryers, portable irons, etc.
Kathleen East May 31, 2015 at 08:44 PM

You can purchase an adapter [flat plug to round plug] in Croatia that will not only be a better fit than US versions, but it will also be cheaper. Just ask your guide where to go. It was a short walk in Zagreb but they would be available in any of the toursit towns.

Brad & Monica Bradbury from the Adirondacks in New York wonder
if anyone from our neck of the woods is coming along?
Robert Brush May 11, 2015 at 05:55 PM

As a kid, I went to summer camp on Lake Champlain and hiked in the Adirondacks. Beautiful area. Now live in the mid-west.

We are on the May 14 trip. Does anyone know if the Vapor has wifi?
Bill Bernheim May 11, 2015 at 03:33 PM

Hi Bob - I called and asked that question last week. Was told it would be "intermittent" in the public areas of the ship. They gave no info on wifi in the hotels. Linda

I was on Futura last year April 20, weather was mostly cool and overcast. Free glass of wine with lunch and dinner on board, more available for purchase, dollars and Kuna accepted as I recall.
Carol Moore Apr 26, 2015 at 04:01 PM

Futura is a DeLuxe ship; Vapor is a Category A+. Our wine may not be free.

Carol Moore Apr 25, 2015 at 02:09 PM

Going on the May 28-June 9 trip on the Vapor. Does anyone have info on this ship? Any luggage restrictions? Only cash on board?
Kathleen East May 31, 2015 at 08:57 PM

Traveled on the Vapor on the May 8th with only 11 passengers on board. No luggage restrictions other than the size of your stateroom [luggage needs to fit under your bed]. You run a tab while on board and pay up at the end -- cash only. One free wine [white or red] or beer at lunch and dinner. Free coffee/tea only at breakfast and mid-afternoon. All other beverages, including water and sodas, have to be purchased on the ship. They cannot be purchased elsewhere and brought aboard for consumption. State rooms are small, bathrooms smaller still. Crew was wonderful and attentive. Bring a swimsuit, the Adriatic is clear and beautiful.

Lee Goldenberg Apr 25, 2015 at 07:32 AM

We are on the April 26 Croatia by Sea tour. We are already at the hotel in Hercg Novi. If you are on the same tour and get in a day early (today), and are interested in seeing the Blue Grotto (number 1 attraction here), we chartered a small boat tomorrow morning (10am) to take us there. The boat cost 50 euros and will hold six people. Right now it is only my wife and I. If your interested in joining us, email me at: henlee@charter.net.
