My wife and I are thinking about signing up for this trip next fall (2015). We are considering September or October ... Anyone have a preference (why)? Also, we are considering a short stay in Venice before embarking on the Croatia trip ... anyone have any tips for us about this part of our trip?
Constance Rapp Jun 29, 2014 at 10:12 AM

Venice is great…can't speak to the weather (neither can weather.com!). It's a wonderful trip at any time.

Is anyone traveling on the Oct 18 trip Croatia by Yacht ?

Donald Johnson Jun 19, 2014 at 12:40 PM

Hi, I have seen a lot of comments from travelers on other dates, but none for Oct. 16, 2014. Anyone traveling on that date to Croatia, starting in Dubrovnik? My wife Karen and I are leaving from Chicago and would like to connect with others on the same trip.
Susan Levy Jun 19, 2014 at 12:45 PM

Don. I am on the Croatia by Yacht leaving on Oct 18. I hope that others will post their experiences when they return.
Donald Johnson Jun 19, 2014 at 03:33 PM

There are some comments from last year the end of Oct. I found helpful. Also the ones in April could help. Are you on #20118RJ?
Susan Levy Jun 19, 2014 at 11:29 PM

Yes, but I am on the Oct 18 departure.

I took the April 25--June 9 tour, including the extension. It was such a great experience, I could do it all over again. Our small ship, The Barbara, could dock in prime locations at each island where we stopped; as well as the locations on the shore of Croatia. The ship is a beauty, the food is excellent, and the crew friendly and attentive. Our guide, Alan, was knowledgable on many subjects ranging from long ago history, to the present. This is a trip I will long remember --both for the sites and for all the people I met.

The books I read for the Croatia/Montenegro trip are reviewed at my blog: http://roadworksbooks.wordpress.com/. Wonderful vacation!

Candace McClenahan May 30, 2014 at 10:44 AM

HI,
I am on the Oct. 11-23, 2014 trip and would like to connect with anyone else on this, especially anyone interested in joining me on a pre-trip excursion to Plitvice Lakes Nat'l Park, Zadar, Zagreb and possibly staying with a local woman in Pula for 1-2 nights. Please contact ASAP for planning purposes…thanks!
Candace

Hi Candace, I'll be on the same trip 10/11-23. I'm curious: is your pre-trip excursion with Road Scholar or on your own? I wanted to take the RS extension at the start of the program but was told it was only available at the end.
Candace McClenahan Jun 02, 2014 at 11:54 PM

So good to hear from another person on this trip! I too want to take a pre-trip excursion…I don't trust the weather in late October, so I'm interested in setting up my own itinerary! So please let me know if you'd like to explore this possibility together. My initial thoughts are to fly into Zagreb, then bus to Plitvice Lakes Nat'l Park where I'd like to stay for 2 days in order to really explore this gorgeous area (where unfortunately the civil war first broke out in '91), then either explore Pula with its Roman amphitheater if I can get in contact with a possible local hostess there, or head south to one of the other nat'l parks, Zadar, and ? What areas were you interested in exploring before joining the RS tour? My email address is clmcclenahan@mac.com…then we can exchange other contact information if you'd like to pursue this possibility. I haven't made airline reservations yet so would like to get this organized ASAP. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Mary Ann L Jun 03, 2014 at 04:46 PM

Candace, the pre-trip you planned sounds great and includes the area I most wanted to see --Plitvice Lakes. Unfortunately, though, I'm leaving Atlanta early on Oct.9 and I've already paid for the hotel in Frankfurt on Oct.10 (it's non-refundable & was quite expensive.) Otherwise I would have definitely considered joining you. At any rate, I'll look forward to meeting you on the main trip.
Candace McClenahan Jun 03, 2014 at 05:19 PM

Hi Mary Ann, Oh, darn! I'm a bit nervous about making this pre-trip excursion alone although I traveled around New Zealand by myself for two months last winter, but that is a bit different. Any chance you could exchange your dates at the hotel in Frankfurt so you don't lose your money but could still join me? Just an idea... A little about me...I'm a retired travel writer, university professor/administrator, and developer of affordable housing...now mainly a full-time gardener-- for the summer at least. Mother of one adult daughter who is getting married Sept. 27--I'll be ready for a yacht trip by October! Looking forward to meeting you in October... Candace
Mary Ann L Jun 11, 2014 at 09:19 PM

Hi Candace, I sent you a response last week on what I thought was a private email. Did you get it? Anyhow I checked again on the hotel in Frankfurt and it's definitely non-refundable. I decided to sign up for the post trip extension even though the timing isn't great because I really want to see Plitvice lake
Candace McClenahan Jun 12, 2014 at 11:20 AM

Hi Mary Ann, Yes, I'd hate to miss Plitvice Lakes Nat'l Park. I'm going to be spending 1-1/2 days there hiking and enjoying its beauty, so glad to hear that you will be taking it in too. I look forward to meeting you on Oct. 12. Candace
