I'm considering this trip for me and my niece who will be 14 this summer. Are the kids who attend this generally teenagers or more towards the 9 year old minimum age?

In the family programs we have kids of all ages. We never know for any particular week, but kids in the family programs generally skew a bit older. Feel free to call us if you have any additional questions at 800-411-3086.

Re: ages of kids, on my trip they ranged from the youngest age, 9, to middle teens. Boys banded together, girls tended not to do so.

Okay, so I will just put this out there for comments: I am a female 70 yrs old in age, but honestly everyone thinks I am in my 50's. I hiked the Grand Canyon about 18 yrs ago and long to go on the river like this trip. During the 18 yrs, I put on 50#, so when you say "be able to get in and out of board" does that mean if I land in the water, I would need to pull myself out back into the boat, or does it mean shore to board? I would love to go on this trip. It would be me and my husband who is very active.

Hi Martha, we recommend that you look at program 1076 scheduled for October 4, 2015 or the 2805 and the 1076 programs scheduled in 2016. Both offer raft trips in the Grand Canyon. You would need to be able to climb in and out of the boat at the beach or on dock. The program you reference is for families – typically grandparents, parents and grandchildren and anyone else considered family, but anyone may sign up. Unfortunately, we won’t offer this again until next summer. Please feel free to give us a call at 800-411-3086 if you would like to explore any Grand Canyon rafting opportunities.

Like the rest of you, I am excited and eager to go on this trip with my grandson who just turned 10. Tho we have both lived in AZ for a bit, we haven't seen Grand Canyon yet. Like Rosemary, I lived in SF Bay Area for many years; took a while to adapt to Southwest after living literally in a redwood forest many years. Eager to meet all you grandparents! Can someone tell me if the participants help row/paddle the rafts or do the guides do all the work? Are the rafts motorized? We are interested in a trip in which we help to paddle. Thanks

Hi Judith, I think you just spoke with Ann in our office and got the information that we do not have any paddle rafting Intergenerational programs. Our outfitter only provides motorized rafts for this rafting adventure.

thank you, that was me. We may do the trip-- still unsure of the dates, but my husband is no longer opposed to the nonpaddling!!!

My 9-year old grandson and I will be on the August 2nd through 7th trip. This is my first trip to the Grand Canyon, as well as my first Road Scholar experience. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and my grandson lives near Fort Worth, Texas. Right now, I am trying to figure out the transportation logistics. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi Rosemary,

If you fly into Phoenix your best bet is to go with Van Go which is a commercial shuttle. The contact # and information should be included in your materials. Sometimes folks will fly to Las Vegas and rent a car from there. Feel free to give us a call at 800-411-3086 if you want to discuss your options.

We are looking forward to sharing this adventure with our 13 year old grandson. He lives in NY and we live in Tucson, transplanted from the east for over 20 years. Wondering what other family groups will be on our June 22nd trip.
