We look forward to joining you for program #6112 Sept 27-Oct 2. We do not have a National Park pass. Do we need one for this program? Thank you!

Hi Dean, you do not need a National Park Pass for this program. However, you will need to pay an entrance fee of $30/vehicle if you drive in on your own. If you take a commercial shuttle, your per person cost is currently $6. Make sure to secure a receipt as you will be hiking on day outside the park so will need to reenter. Enjoy hiking in the Grand Canyon.

Do any of your Grand Canyon excursions go down to the floor of the canyon?
Ellie Knesper Jun 13, 2015 at 09:24 PM

Check the RS website. "Rim to River" is a great trip.

What is the weather like in October?

Hi Bev, historic averages for October at Grand Canyon National Park are low 60's during the day and going down to 20's at night. Layers is your best bet as the mornings will be brisk. Usually October is dry and sunny. We always recommend that you look at an extended forecast beginning 10 days or so before your program start date to get more up-to-date information on current weather conditions. Weather.gov or noaa.gov are recommended.

Thank you. The info is helpful as we look at different dates.

We are going on this experience October 25-31.
Some of us have a fear of heights i.e. narrow trails with steep drop-offs.
any idea if this hike has those types of trails?

Hi Marcia, the trails you will hike are 4-6' wide, on average. There won't be any instances where you will be on an edge on a narrow trail with a drop off. The hikes will afford you some awe-inspiring views of the Canyon, but none of the trails should make you feel overly-anxious. Feel free to give us a call if you need more information: 800-411-3086.

Hi Caryn, Yes as so am I in the same situation. I am coming from New York, I haven't booked the flight yet, but looks like calling the shuttle service first would be helpful. Have you booked yet?
Caryn Lesko Jan 11, 2015 at 02:07 PM

Yes I have, the Van Go company. They have an arrangement with a local hotel, which may be changing. He says he will give me a call when they work it out so I will wait to make the hotel reservation.

Caryn Lesko Jan 05, 2015 at 09:38 PM

I am considering the March 1 2015 trip but it looks like I would need to get to Phoenix Sat eve due to flights not arriving before 10 am on the first from Oakland CA. Any one else in this situation?

Hi Caryn, you may want to call Van Go Shuttle at 866-448-2646 as they often work with Phoenix hotels for those who are in this situation. They may be able to tell you if arriving at 10 am will be early enough (info says arrival by 10:30 AM) to catch a shuttle to Flagstaff to make the 2:30 PM shuttle departure from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon South Rim. Hope this helps!
Caryn Lesko Jan 07, 2015 at 01:05 AM

there are no flights from Oakland CA which get in before the appropriate van, so I will need to arrive the previous day. Will check for inexpensive hotels.
Caryn Lesko Jan 07, 2015 at 11:39 PM

FYI, Van Go shuttle has an arrangement with one of the airport hotels and will do a pick up. They have been very helpful.

Thinking of this trip april 19 to the 24th. Anyone out there going? Would love to hear from you.
Carol Sahm Jan 12, 2015 at 11:39 PM

I'm going to sign up this week for the April 2015 trip. This is my first trip.
Margaret MacAdam Feb 19, 2015 at 03:30 PM

I'm going on the April 19-24th trip too. I'm coming from the east coast so I will have to arrive the day before to line up the van service.

This is a fantastic trip (April-May, 2014). We experienced the Grand Canyon in ways we never would have on our own and learned about it in ways that helped us truly appreciate and love what we were seeing. Hiking with experienced, knowledgeable guides with a deep love for the Grand Canyon, and a great group of fellow hikers made all the difference. With less hiking experience than many, the leaders and others helped us gain confidence and skills. Get good quality hiking poles, boots and clothing. Walk hills and do cardio to prepare. Loved having binoculars.

Thanks for your kind words about our program and staff, Audrie! So glad you enjoyed the Grand Canyon.
