Anyone going to the Grand Canyon on October 5th, 2015?

Mercella Cowen May 17, 2015 at 06:21 PM

Anyone going on the May 29th trip to the Grand Canyon? This will be my first trip. Anyone need a roommate?

Eleanor Gonzalez Apr 26, 2015 at 02:16 PM

Anyone going on the May 24th trip? While this isn't my first Road Scholar adventure, it is my first visit to the Grand Canyon and I'm very excited.
Eric Lipschutz May 11, 2015 at 08:52 AM

Looking forward to this trip the Grand Canyon has always been on my bucket list!
Eric Lipschutz May 17, 2015 at 05:13 PM

Less than a week until the trip!
Eleanor Gonzalez May 17, 2015 at 07:50 PM

I'm counting the days, too (and checking the temperatures!).
Eric Lipschutz May 17, 2015 at 07:54 PM

I added the weather at the Grand Canyon on my phone last week!
Eleanor Gonzalez May 17, 2015 at 08:16 PM

Good thinking -- but whatever the temperature, it'll be an unforgettable experience.
Eric Lipschutz May 23, 2015 at 02:36 PM

Temperatures during the day look like low to mid 70's at the Grand Canyon! Cold at night however.

Rene Casteran Apr 02, 2015 at 09:07 PM

I'll be going on the Sept 12-18 trip along with Carolyn Oates. Were both from Oregon. I went to the Grand Canyon many years ago with a school group but am looking forward to re-learning part of what I have forgotten.
Bernice Maw Jul 28, 2015 at 05:32 PM

This will be my first time to the Grand Canyon. It has been on my list for a long time. I will be going on the RS trip "Staircase to the Past: Utah's Grand Circle of Parks and Monuments and the Grand Canyon's North Rim" prior to our trip. And, am coming in from St. George, UT to Phoenix, AZ to join the group.

Cheryl Benson Aug 28, 2014 at 09:22 PM

Anyone else going on the Oct 7 trip? This is my first Road Scholar trip and my first trip to Grand Canyon. It is exciting, and I cannot wait! Anyone have any inside tips or advice?
Sherrie Smith Sep 05, 2014 at 02:21 PM

Hi Cheryl. I am going on the October 7th trip to the Grand Canyon too! This is my Road Scholar trip, first trip to the Grand Canyon, and first time traveling alone. I look forward to meeting you!
Cheryl Benson Sep 05, 2014 at 02:39 PM

Perfect Sherrie! I am traveling with a coworker/friend of mine and she and I are both really excited. I have heard only good things about RS trips.
Sherrie Smith Sep 06, 2014 at 12:22 PM

Thanks, Cheryl. It will be nice to have a name and face to look for in Phoenix!
Cheryl Benson Sep 06, 2014 at 02:21 PM

I agree. It looks like there is a good amount of time to do some exploring on our own too. That will be nice. I have been trying to read a few things before the trip so that I will have some idea of what I am looking at.
Sherrie Smith Sep 07, 2014 at 11:14 PM

That's a great idea! I hope I can take advantage of some of some of your wisdom! I have been reading some historical accounts of very early settlers there.
Sherrie Smith Sep 07, 2014 at 11:16 PM

Are you taking a winter coat, or layering with a lighter-weight coat? It looks like we're in for some cool temps on the North Rim.
Cheryl Benson Sep 08, 2014 at 06:59 AM

I will probably decide when the date gets closer, but right now, I am planning to layer with a lighter-weight coat. I'm from Iowa, so I am used to colder weather, but the desert is another story from what I hear.
Sherrie Smith Sep 09, 2014 at 12:00 AM

Cheryl, what a small world! I was born and raised in Iowa, and have spent all but 7 years of my life there. I live in California now to be close to my son. When my mom or sister pick me up at the airport for the holidays there, they bring my down coat with them. And, I leave it there when I return to sunny California. I will feel right at home traveling with another Iowan!
Cheryl Benson Sep 09, 2014 at 09:50 AM

No kidding! Isn't that funny? I live in Oskaloosa, and my friend who is traveling with me lives in Des Moines. It is indeed a small world. Where do you live in California and where were you from in Iowa?
Sherrie Smith Sep 10, 2014 at 12:16 AM

The coincidence really amuses me! I lived most of my life in Marshalltown, but spent 7 years in Ida Grove and another 7 in Sioux City. I was in east Texas for 5 years, and now live very close to Pasadena. Iowa will always feel like home to me, but I admit to a real dislike of the winter weather there. And the shoveling!!!!
Cheryl Benson Sep 10, 2014 at 08:03 AM

I love Iowa, but I do think it is good to live other places. I was born in Columbus, Ohio, moved to Dallas, TX at age 11, Morristown, NJ when I was 14 and then came to Iowa at 17. Also spent a summer in Minnesota and a summer in Maine. It's one of the great things about travel--meeting other people and different ways of doing things and of thinking about things.
Sherrie Smith Sep 10, 2014 at 10:58 PM

Personally, I liked the feeling of growing up close to grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. I think it gave me more self-confidence because I had that support group. Going back to the house my parents built in the 60's is very much like going home. I will admit that I learned more about myself when I traveled. I spent a summer in the Philippines as a foreign exchange student. What an eye-opener!
Cheryl Benson Sep 11, 2014 at 05:48 PM

It's a good mix--a solid place to call home plus some experience with other people and how they do things. Only 25 days to go--but who's counting?!
Sherrie Smith Oct 02, 2014 at 10:53 PM

Hi Cheryl! I can't believe how fast the time has been going since school started again. Can you believe we're going to be at the Grand Canyon in less than a week?! Oh yeah, now I'm counting! I look forward to meeting you next week!

Cheryl Benson Aug 25, 2014 at 11:40 AM

I am going on the Oct 1 trip along with a coworker/friend of mine. It will be my first Road Scholar trip, and it sounds wonderful--absolutely cannot wait!
Cheryl Benson Aug 25, 2014 at 11:41 AM

October 7 trip it should say.
