Anyone from Hunterdon, Somerset, or Morris County traveling from Newark Airport to Winnipeg on March 4 for this trip? Would share expense getting to the airport.

Has anyone else been watching NOAA's Space Weather site? The solar storm activity is increasing, which is good for our viewing of the Aurora in February. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
Kathleen Brannigan Jan 02, 2014 at 11:41 AM

No, Nora, I haven't been. But thanks! I will start. Fingers crossed, for sure.

I have recently signed up for the March program as my first RS and also traveling as a single... It looks to be quite an adventure. I plan to take the option to rent a parka and snow pants....and I have started practicing some night photography and researching which of my camera gear is best for northern lights and stars.... And daytime snow.

Kathleen Brannigan Dec 22, 2013 at 11:30 PM

Also, I am traveling there as a single. I am 67 year old single woman. I like a mixture of quiet time to absorb the day, journal a bit...but also like sharing. The booklet suggested we use this space to find a roommate. Is anyone interested in making a connection to see if we would work as good roommates? This is for Feb, 2014 trip.

We did the trip Feb 2013 and had to arrange our own transportation to Churchill from Phila. We chose to stay a few days in Winnipeg and then take train to Churchill. Winnipeg at was worth the stop to see the ice and snow sculptures and watch skating on the Rivers. Train ride was quaint, bumpy over packed snow but comfortable. Kitchen was closed so all microwave meals. The Aurora Borealis was splendid and we would recommend the trip. Bring a good Camera and practice shoot the sky at night Enjoy Jerry

I am just signing on, now. this is my first program with RS. I also thought that RS provided transport from Winnipeg to Churchill and back. Is that not right? It is too late for me to call them, but I will call them in the am. I am going in Feb 2014.
Jean Marie Mahaney Feb 01, 2014 at 11:06 AM

(I don't see how to respond to your roommate post.) Have you gotten a roommate yet? We might work out. I'm a single woman, 66, and I like a mixture of private and social time. I'm really looking forward to this trip! It's my first Road Scholar journey.
Kathleen Brannigan Feb 03, 2014 at 09:18 AM

Sounds like a good match.
Kathleen Brannigan Feb 03, 2014 at 09:19 AM

I will contact Road Scholar and see if this can be arranged.

Hi. That was last year. I went on the trip which was fabulous, probably
the best I've ever taken or will take in terms of excitement and
knowledge. Have a great time. r

Thank you!

I am interested in this program, but have not yet signed up. I'm wondering why you're looking for transportation between Winnipeg and Churchill. Isn't that Day 3 when RS transfers everyone by plane and included in the price of the program?
Teresa Wilkin Nov 08, 2013 at 12:47 PM

Yeah, I understand that RS changed their policy after our visit last winter to include the cost of transportation in the price of the program. Hopefully they were able to get the group fare from Calm Air that way. We had to pay as individuals even though we all ended up on the same plane, except of course those that took the overnight train. Our program started & ended in Churchill, and we were responsible for independent arrivals there. Glad to learn they listened to our feedback!
