Packing suggestions include pants and skirts. Average temperatures in Charleston are 80º in May, are shorts considered tacky?

I am flying into Charleston April 14th around noon for this program and will stay for Historic Charleston program afterwards. If anyone is at the airrport at that time we could go into town together.
