Nancy, did you enjoy the hiking? Besides being uphill, were the trails wide and protected from any chance of falling?
Nancy Dunbar Aug 04, 2015 at 08:02 PM

Well, I think there's always a chance of falling but I did not find the trails dangerous at all. One day we hiked up in a steady drizzle and, since the trail would have been treacherous coming down, we took a bus back to town. I was glad to have both hiking boots and a walking stick, and yes, I did very much enjoy the hikes. FYI, I am not an experienced hiker.
Natalie Elefant Aug 07, 2015 at 11:28 PM

Recalling my trip in Sept '13, some of the hikes are somewhat challenging. Some of the trails are narrow although I wouldn't say one is likely to fall. I would recommend that participants have some experience hiking or be in very good condition from other types of exercise.

I'm looking forward to my first RS trip. Anyone hoping to work on their Italian during our hikes?

Susan Welch Sep 15, 2014 at 08:57 AM

We are enrolled in the upcoming Oct. trip, is anyone else:
1. arriving early to Stressa?
2. combining this program with the French Barge canal voyage (#21158RJ)?

Leslie Nixon May 15, 2014 at 04:52 PM

Elizabeth and Eileen……actually, anyone; would you please share a bit of your experiences on this trip. I am thinking about doing it in 2015
Natalie Elefant May 16, 2014 at 12:36 AM

Hi Leslie & Eileen, I went on this trip last Sept and it was very good and we had an excellent trip leader. A couple of the hikes were a bit challenging but everyone was successful. The lakes are beautiful. I recommend it!
Leslie Nixon May 17, 2014 at 11:15 AM

Where a couple of the hikes challenging because of rough terrain or uphill or length?? Also, I am trying to decide if spring is better than early fall. Did you enjoy the fall weather there?? Thanks for responding. L
Leslie Nixon May 17, 2014 at 11:16 AM

oops, I meant 'were' not where.
Natalie Elefant May 19, 2014 at 10:43 AM

The challenging hikes had some elevation climb (only a walk or two was fairly flat; all the others had quite a bit of climbing) and sometimes there was rough terrain. The fall weather was good. This was my only visit to the Lakes.
Leslie Nixon May 19, 2014 at 05:30 PM

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, Natalie. Now I have a really clear idea of what to expect. I hiked around Mt Blanc about 15 years ago. This sounds much like that.

I'm signed up for the May 5th trip. I will be arriving at Malpensa early on the 5th and hope to meet everyone for the transport to Stresa. I would like to hear from others who will also be meeting the tour at Malpensa.
Eileen Okel Apr 02, 2014 at 10:29 PM

Hi Elizabeth! My husband Ed and I are excited about Walking the Italian Lakes. We plan to arrive in Milan on May 2, do some sightseeing and then meet the group on May 5 at Malpensa to go on to Stresa. I'm looking forward to visiting this beautiful area of Italy.
Elizabeth Lurie Apr 02, 2014 at 11:25 PM

I'll be arriving from the states that morning so I'll look forward to meeting you. Have you been to Italy before? I was in the Lake district in 1993 and again in 96 with my husband. It is beautiful and I will be happy to spend more in depth time there.
Eileen Okel Apr 03, 2014 at 10:11 PM

This is my first trip to Italy! Looking forward to meeting you, too.

Patricia McPhee Feb 24, 2014 at 08:15 PM

My friend, Sue and I are from Upstate NY and look forward to meeting all of you.
Jean Gilman Mar 01, 2014 at 12:06 PM

What dates are you signed up for, and are you arriving a day early?
Patricia McPhee Mar 01, 2014 at 07:00 PM

We leave from Albany, NY on May 18.

Susan Moor Oct 01, 2013 at 09:42 PM

I look forward to walking with all of you. I am spending 3 days in Milan and will meet the RS group back at the airport on the 7th!
Jean Gilman Nov 21, 2013 at 01:18 PM

I'm thinking about this trip for May, 2014. Did you travel alone; and, if so, do you know if roommate matching is available.
Susan Moor Nov 21, 2013 at 05:46 PM

I did travel alone and roommate matching is available. There were many single women and we all had a wonderful time. All are friendly and fun and different groups flow together according to interest level.
Jean Gilman Nov 21, 2013 at 06:32 PM

Thanks for the info. Jean
