Are there any other singles signed up for the Sept. 22nd trip? I'm just hoping I don't have to sit at the table and eat alone as I did on another trip I took last year. On that one, all were couples and I sure felt like the 3rd wheel and that wasn't much fun. I'm doing the fall tour because I've been told by many that that is the best time of year to do some serious hiking in Switzerland. Not only is it cooler, but there can be snow on the mountain peaks which adds to the beauty. In the summer there's no snow in the Alps to speak of. I like hiking in the cool of the fall and certainly not the heat of summer.

I'm not experienced with European travel and am wondering if anyone can tell me how we might go about charging our camera and cell phone batteries while there. Do the hotels provide adapters or do we have to buy some electical adapters to do the job? Just a thought, but this will be important to me as I plan on taking a ton of photos while in Switzerland, France and Italy!
Ron Baeseman Apr 07, 2014 at 09:05 PM

Yes Gary, you will have to take your converter(s) and appropriate plugs for the countries you are traveling to. I know that England is different from most Western European countries. Check it out on google for which plugs and adaptors needed.

Thanks, Ron, I appreciate your advice. Someone once told me that most hotels have electrical adapters to loan to guests but I don't think one should count on that.

I am signed up for Sept. 10 trip and would look forward to meeting you there. I bought that pkg of books as recommended, and the one "Tour of Mont Blanc" is interesting but I have read some and would be willing to send it to you if you would like. Best part: it recommended 2 trekking poles and said the best time to go was early Sept!!! Oct. moves into Indian Summer and sometimes snow!!! Earlier I saw the temp ranges from 40 -60. I'm single and traveling with another gal.

I'm signing up for the Sept., 2014 trip as a single and am counting on the weather being cool as I like it that way. I am hoping there might be a few other singles on this trip so that I don't have to feel like the only one at a table come time for meals. :>) I'm a widower having lost my longtime wife of Switzerland heritage.

Typically there are several solo travelers on RS trips. Very unlikely you would be alone at a table as people are always welcoming. You'll end up with new friends. Which September date are you enrolled in?
Gary Garton Apr 03, 2014 at 06:08 PM

I'm going with the Sept. 24 trip as the Sept. 10th trip is already filled with a waiting list. I prefer hiking in the cooler weather of fall versus the warm temps of summer. Besides, in late Sept. there might be some snow on the mountain peaks to add to the beauty of the land. What program are you enrolled in?

Just signed up for the June 25th as well. As of now I plan to arrive one day early. Will anyone else be in Villars on the 24th?
Lori Nitchals Mar 04, 2014 at 02:04 PM

I plan to arrive Tuesday also. Have not scheduled my flight or accommodations yet. Hoping to do so through Road Scholar. Where will you be flying from in the US? Lori
Nina Frankel Mar 04, 2014 at 05:08 PM

Actually I am departing Tues arriving Wed June 25. The tour really begins Thurs June 26. I am flying from NYC one day earlier than the suggested travel date of June 25 because I got a better deal on my flight that way and it is always nice to have a day to get acclimated. Keep me posted on your plans, Nina
Lori Nitchals Apr 07, 2014 at 09:44 PM

I decided to stay at the Starling Hotel Tues and Wed nights as they have a free shuttle to the airport so I can meet up with the group on Thursday at the airport. I plan to explore Geneva.
Nina Frankel Apr 10, 2014 at 01:39 PM

Sounds like a good plan. See you in Villars, Nina

Just signed up for the June 25th trip to Mt Blanc. Would love to connect with other participants. Any singles going?
Joanne Donovan Feb 28, 2014 at 06:51 PM

Hi Lori, I'm single and also signed up for the June 25th trip. Please feel free to send me a message and we can communicate. Looking forward to chatting with you and sharing the trip!

Wonderful! I am in WA state. I have done one other trip with Road Scholar which was to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary last year. Where do you live?

anne maglisceau Feb 12, 2014 at 03:20 PM

We did this in May and had a fair bit of snow including June 1 in St. Moritz. Sept sounds like a good time. I'm mainly writing because I keep thinking about Chamonix and would love to go back. The whole trip was great. We did it back to back with the Training Around Switzerland which was also great and a good combo with the walking. Enjoy
Christine Brown Feb 12, 2014 at 07:07 PM

Thanks, Anne.

Kathleen Cavanaugh Feb 12, 2014 at 01:07 PM

I'm going in Sept. 2014. So far am signed up my myself; would consider a roommate. I too wonder about the weather.
