Anyone else going on the April 9, 2015 trip? I'm traveling from Utah via Atlanta.

Carol Marcus Aug 31, 2014 at 09:29 AM

My husband and I are taking the trip. This will be our 6th RS Trip. We will spend a few days in Rome and Pompeii before meeting the group at the Rome Airport on Oct. 12.
Generally, RS will assign roommates from those traveling as singles.
Jeannette Reinhart Sep 01, 2014 at 01:25 PM

Sounds great, look forward to meeting you both!

Jeannette Reinhart Aug 30, 2014 at 03:36 PM

Anyone looking for a roommate for the Oct 12th trip? Don't know how they arrange this but figured I'd give a shout out.

Who is going on the Oct 12th trip? This is my first RS. I'm leaving from Philly.
Carol Marcus Aug 30, 2014 at 03:15 PM

We are going on that trip - meeting at the airport in Rome.
Jeannette Reinhart Aug 30, 2014 at 03:33 PM

Hi Carol! Where are you from? How many are in your group? I am told there are 20 total.

Beth B. Aug 12, 2014 at 10:09 PM

Is anyone else transferring in Toronto (Air Canada) before going to Rome?

Renee Wright Aug 11, 2014 at 04:55 PM

By the way, I'm from upstate NY, my family is from Chicago and Phoenix.

Renee Wright Aug 11, 2014 at 04:54 PM

My sister, sister-in-law, new friend and I will be taking the Tuscany trip too. I'm concerned about water. Do we pack our own? I'm an OK walker, not really a hiker per se. Two of the four of us are fast walkers. I want to enjoy the scenery and learn about the country side as well.
George Struble Aug 11, 2014 at 05:26 PM

Do take a water bottle. Any coke or juice bottle that screws ttightly enough is fine. Of course you can refill it every day!
Jane Berman Aug 11, 2014 at 05:39 PM

And the tap water is perfectly fine, so don't hesitate to use it.

Sharon Fratepietro Jul 21, 2014 at 01:43 PM

I'm considering taking this trip. I wonder how fast the walking pace is. Distance is OK, but I'm slow going up hill and I wouldn't want to hold up anyone.
Jane Berman Jul 21, 2014 at 02:21 PM

There are two leaders and very accommodating Sharon. One will always hang back to take care of any us stragglers, while the rest of the group continues. Also, there are stops along the way for photos, discussions, etc., so you have a chance to catch up. A great trip!
Sharon Fratepietro Jul 22, 2014 at 08:27 AM

Thanks for the quick info! One more question--my husband is a fast walker and sometimes likes to forge ahead of the larger group, then wait for the rest to catch up. Is this possible?
Jane Berman Jul 22, 2014 at 11:01 AM

As long as he doesn't overtake the leader! The safety protocol is to ensure a leader at the front of the "groupo" and another at the back. Wrt your question about pace, other walking groups typically quote 3 mph, so you should be able to comfortably walk a mile in 20 minutes.
Beth B. Jul 25, 2014 at 12:11 AM

Hi Sharon (great last name!). I had the same questions & called RS. I walk at a decent pace, but mostly flat terrain, so I'm slow on hills too. Although RS rates the hikes, one person's "moderate" may be another's "fast."
Beth B. Jul 25, 2014 at 12:13 AM

Thx Jane for info also. 3 mph is good to know; I can handle that!
