Joe Sanders Sep 16, 2014 at 04:51 PM

HI All;Joe Sanders, here. Going on the PUg/Cab trip starting 10/31. Single guy booking economy rate (room share) and would welcome linking up ahead with a potentially compatible room mate. I'm an active guy living in Eugene OR.; like physically active outdoor stuff (hike/bike/kayak/swim) not a lot of museums, really.
Like music (except opera!) and films. POOR SLEEPER so hoping for a quiet man who goes to bed at a predictable time and doesn't seek to be active or put on lights -once we've gone to bed. To the best of my knowledge I DO NOT snore, and would appreciate someone else who does not, either. Any single guys going on this trip, if you wish to respond, we could begin here, and see where it goes for making more substantive advance contact.
Happy upcoming adventure travels! Joe

Carrol, I just noticed that I mis
spelled your name. Sorry.
Started packing today. The trip is becoming a reality.

Carole Sklar Aug 19, 2014 at 04:29 PM

How sweet you are, Carol!
You are going to arrive at EWR11:30 AM to go to JFK. Our plane departs 6PM. I know one must be there by 4PM. I believe you will
have a looooong wait. I'll stay with my original plan. A million thanks.
Carrol Meredith Aug 20, 2014 at 10:22 PM

My flight on Alitalia is at 4:00 p.m.
Carole Sklar Aug 21, 2014 at 06:06 AM

I am puzzled. My flight on Alitalia AZ603 is 6PM.
Carrol Meredith Aug 22, 2014 at 07:33 PM

I'm booked on AZ609
Carole Sklar Aug 23, 2014 at 07:32 AM

And so, the mystery is solved. See you in Italy. Good trip.

Carole Sklar Aug 03, 2014 at 08:45 AM

Thank you, Alice for your very rich report.
Makes me want to be there today!.
How wonderful being away for eight weeks. Need I say enjoy them ?

Alice Iaquinta Aug 03, 2014 at 08:32 AM

Hello to all about to go to Puglia and Calabria!
I took this trip last fall, my first with Road Scholar, and I can not say enough about how fabulous it was. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed in any aspect and will come away for a really different understanding of Italian culture, from the peasant point of view as survivors of millennia of invasions. Venice, Rome, Florence trips all focus on the riches of the princes, of state and church. This trip takes you to the land, the people and the lived history of what they all experienced. My own grandparents came from Calabria, as very poor teens and I now have a much deeper understanding of who they were and who they became in their new homeland. Relax and just soak it all up. The food was amazing and the lunches were spectacular events to be savored and enjoyed with a real Italian mind set for lingering. I loved it. I too am ready to embark in early September for Italy again with Road Scholar, but this time four trips in a row, back to back for 8 weeks. That should tell you how fabulous I thought the first experience was.
Betty Merten Aug 19, 2014 at 04:40 PM

Alice, If you were there (Puglia/Calabria) in late September, could you tell us if you had any mosquitoes? I don't really want to buy some OFF to pack but will if they were a problem. I have skin that mosquitoes love!
Betty Merten Aug 19, 2014 at 04:41 PM

Oh, also, Alice, is a light jacket enough for late Sept? I looked up temp averages and saw that the average high for Sept is only 70, which was surprising to me.

Carole Sklar Aug 03, 2014 at 07:41 AM

Hello Carrol,
The flight is the most not-looked-forward-to part of my trip, too. I have to
get to JFK. Would have been easier to fly from Newark, but not possible (with RS).
I can guess we are all eager to be taking the trip. There's not much to discuss, beforehand. I've taken two previous trips with RS: both groups were compatible.
Carrol Meredith Aug 08, 2014 at 08:15 AM

I too am going out of JFK. I finally found a well-reviewed reliable transport service called NYC Executive Limosine and have booked my pickup at EWR and dropoff at JFK for 11:30 am on Sept. 9 outside EWR's Terminal 3. Their number is (800) 515-0319 and Gary is the owner and often driver. He received raves in the reviews.
Carole Sklar Aug 08, 2014 at 11:11 AM

I had looked into Limo Sevices, but since I travel very light and since it's
Carole Sklar Aug 08, 2014 at 11:14 AM

daytime, I've found a less luxurious, less expensive way to go. Problem is, it will take much longer. I will take a bus from my town to Port Authority, and, from there a NYC Airporter bus to JFK.
Carrol Meredith Aug 19, 2014 at 12:22 PM

Should you change your mind, Gary (the owner) has told me it does not affect my cost so you are welcome to join me.

Carrol Meredith Aug 02, 2014 at 05:33 PM

Well, we're about five weeks out and still no discussion on this trip. I assume all twenty-four (?) participants are feeling very comfortable about it.
I am new to RS but have high expectations
since I've been hearing about them for many years. Looking forward to 14 days of new experiences and beautiful scenery
(can't bring myself to looking forward to the two days of travel). The two flights are not too long though so I'm excited for the fun to begin. Hope we're a good group. I travel alone.
Betty Merten Aug 02, 2014 at 09:06 PM

Carrol, Earlier I posted a query asking if anyone who might be going a few days early might be interested in exploring Ostuni with me?
Carrol Meredith Aug 08, 2014 at 08:19 AM

Betty, Sorry but my work schedule doesn't allow it in Sept. This is pushing the limit for me but I must consider the weather (I'm very hot-natured) and workload. Wish I could though...it sounds like great fun.
Betty Merten Aug 08, 2014 at 11:27 AM

I've found a great B&B in Ostuni in which to recover from jet lag. It's a LONGGGGG way to Brindisi from Seattle!
Carrol Meredith Aug 09, 2014 at 07:23 AM

But what a wonderful place to come home to!
