Anyone else arriving a day early?
Patricia Sebestyen Jan 17, 2016 at 06:57 AM

Georgette, where are you flying from?
Georgette M. Jan 17, 2016 at 07:12 AM

Newark Airport, New Jersey.
Patricia Sebestyen Jan 17, 2016 at 09:10 AM

A NJ girl? I was born & raised in Woodbridge Township, NJ, and moved South in 1966.

Patricia Sebestyen Jan 16, 2016 at 01:56 PM

Is anyone else flying from ATL for the May 2-19, 2016, trip?
Also wondering if anyone is taking 'hiking boots'?
Gayle Vyskocil Jan 16, 2016 at 03:16 PM

Patricia, unless you wear hiking boots for routine walking, you won't really need them. Good, comfortable walking shoes are plenty; consider taking a 2nd pair, if you expect it to be really wet (which is the general weather!). Only at the Clifs of Moher, if you essentially hike out of bounds, you won't need true hiking boots. I have problem feet and took low-cut hiking shoes, which were more than adequate. Pack a 2nd pair of walking shoes, if you can, to make sure you have dry shoes each day. Hope this info helps.
Gayle Vyskocil Jan 16, 2016 at 03:19 PM

Oops! Didn't mean to be redundant, but I kept losing my post mid-sentence and didn't want to try and go back to review it and lose it again.
Patricia Sebestyen Jan 16, 2016 at 04:12 PM

Thank you, Gayle. Also, 2 pairs of shoes would be smart; hopefully I can fit them in my suitcase.

Georgette M. Jan 12, 2016 at 12:35 AM

I'm arriving on May 2nd and have been looking at B&B's and hotels. Is anyone else arriving a day earlier? Recommendations for lodging. Thanks!
Gayle Vyskocil Jan 12, 2016 at 01:49 AM

Georgette, what I learned much later, after having made a non-refundable reservation at another hotel is that RS uses the Radisson Hotel by the Airport as a collecting point for travelers arriving on the Official Arrival Day. When everyone has arrived, they then board the bus for Belfast and their first tour hotel. The RS Travel Dept can make hotel reservations for you, if you want. If I had known about the Radisson situation in the beginning, I would have saved myself alot of hassle shuttling back to the airport and then another shuttle to the Radisson. Hope this info helps.
Georgette M. Jan 12, 2016 at 06:50 AM

Thanks so much Gayle! I'll contact RS today.

My wife, Teri, and I will be on the April 25-May 12 trip. We're retired and now live in South Carolina. Anybody else signed up for those dates?
Cathlene Fishman Jan 14, 2016 at 12:54 PM

Hello! I have signed up also ... and am so excited! This will be my first trip with RS. So nice to meet you.

My husband, Ed and I are going on this trip. We've gone on 2 RS trips and both were great. Loved our trip to New Zealand and Australia!

Barbara Hoganson Jan 07, 2016 at 03:31 PM

We were on the trip with Jeff, Marty and Gayle and also think that you can decide to ride (down/back at Giant's Causeway), how far you will walk at the Cliffs of Mohr, etc. It is a fantastic trip--one of our Road Scholar bests. Go for it!

Phyllis Mattek Jan 07, 2016 at 12:27 PM

We are in our late 70s and are pretty active, but the Ireland trips have two miles of walking a day, wonder if we can do that?
Jeff Virchow Jan 07, 2016 at 12:54 PM

My wife and I were on the Sep./Oct. trip this past fall. There was a couple on the trip, one was 85, the other 90. They managed pretty well, although there were one or two walks they sat out. You'll be fine!
Gayle Vyskocil Jan 07, 2016 at 01:00 PM

Phyllis, I was on the same trip as the Virchow's and totally agree with Jeff's comments. The longer walks were walking tours of a couple downtowns, which were at a leisurely pace with frequent stops. The longest I recall walking were at the Giant's Causeway and the Cliffs of Moher, both of which are done at at your own pace. I urge you to take this marvelous trip; there's nothing to be concerned about, and the sights you'll see and the history you'll learn will totally captivate you -- at least, they did me.

I just signed up for the May 2 - May 19, 2016 trip. Just got back from the Galapagos trip and it was amazing. I've never been to Ireland and am looking forward to this next adventure!
Patricia Sebestyen Nov 21, 2015 at 04:31 PM

Hi, Georgette. I am also doing this trip-same dates. I will be flying out of ATL, and this will be my 13th trip w/RS.
Georgette M. Nov 21, 2015 at 08:56 PM

That's great! I look forward to meeting you. What other programs have you done?
Patricia Sebestyen Nov 21, 2015 at 09:42 PM

Hawaii+Yellowstone (summer & winter)+Death Valley+4 corners+Puerto Rico+Austria/Germany/France+2 in GA+SpaceCoast FL+Wash DC, etc. What trips have you done besides the Galapagos?
Georgette M. Dec 19, 2015 at 05:46 PM

Galapagos was the first!

Jeff Virchow Sep 15, 2015 at 09:52 AM

Marty and I are leaving from Chicago on Sept. 28 for the Ireland trip. Anyone else flying from Chicago?
