Hi Margie. I went in May and it was the most amazing experience. Our group was fun to travel with and the guides very informative. Weather was perfect for hiking and all of our hikes a great experience.

Anyone signed up for Oct 4-10? My husband and I are very excited about tis our first Road Scholar program. We are frm NH and visited the Grand Canyon about ten years ago hiking the south rim with our daughters. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I would love to do this trip. I feel I'm in pretty good shape however, I'm appehensive about carring 30lb of gear- I've never done heavy backpacks before.Any suggestions?

1. Get fitted for a good backpack at a store like Rei. They will help you find the best, most comfortable fit. 2. Practice walking where you live with the backpack, preferably on hills - DOWN & up - gradually increasing the weight as you do over weeks (and don't overdo this...listen to your body - it shouldn't ever hurt - just feel like a bit more of a challenge. 3. Increase that weight up to 40 lbs if you can. Then when you hike the canyon, it will seem easier - and you can focus on enjoying the scenery instead of the pack struggle. 4. When you practice at home, practice with your hiking boots on AND using your hiking poles (they will be especially helpful to you on the downhilll, if used properly. If you don't know how to use them, get trained from someone who really knows. YOu don't want to just carry them along - use them to carry some of the weight/strain as you take steps down. I hope this helps! Enjoy!!!
