Loved the April trip. Sorry to have had to leave so abruptly the last night. Would love to hear from some folks on the trip. pspindel@msn.com peace,
Melanie Payne Apr 26, 2015 at 12:49 PM

Paul, I'm leaving on the same trip on May 1. What was the weather like? I feel like I have to be prepared for it all! Thanks.
Paul Spindel Apr 30, 2015 at 06:56 PM

Hi Melanie, sorry for the delay in responding. I have been off the grid. Yes, be prepared for anything. We did lots of layering. Started with lots on, took stuff off, put stuff back on.... enjoy. Say hello to the crew on the Allure for me. Pass some hugs around.

Paul Spindel Mar 22, 2015 at 05:54 PM

My wife and I are going on the trip that begins April 3, 2015. Anyone else out there going on that one? Leaving soon. Excitement growing
Shannon Harmon Mar 30, 2015 at 01:54 AM

Hey Paul, my husband and I are going. We are not first rate bicyclists and hope everyone is patient.
Paul Spindel Mar 30, 2015 at 10:01 AM

Look forward to meeting you and your husband. I am sure the cycling will be at a slow pace..

Melanie Payne Mar 21, 2015 at 11:45 AM

Anyone else leaving from Dulles Airport on May 1, 2015 for the Holland and Belgium bike/barge program?

Marilyn Flick Jul 16, 2014 at 04:04 PM

Looks like you are the only one who has signed on going on the August trip, Dennis. Add my husband and I. We have several friends who have taken this trip and we are really looking forward to it.

Retta-Leigh Keil Mar 04, 2014 at 09:59 PM

Oh shoot. I just realized you said August. I'm going in may since I spend the summer at the beach. Shame. I would have enjoyed being with you and your wife. Remind me in june and I 'll send y'all a full report!
Dennis Friedman Mar 17, 2014 at 07:33 PM

Hi Retta-Leigh, looking forward to hear all about your adventures!

Retta-Leigh Keil Feb 16, 2014 at 09:43 AM

I'm in Virginia, winters in Richmond, summers at the beach. My biking is all flat, but sometimes windy.but I ride a simple beach cruiser. When I beganthe trip in Sicily I was completely daunted by the group's prior experiences and amount of pre-trip training....and amount of bionic parts! But I hung in there and was never the first one to get off and push up the hill. So I decided to try it again. The scariest part was reading all the forms. I think they're going to send me home at least twice a day for non-compliance! It sounds like a wonderful itinerary. Have y'all ever seen that area?
Dennis Friedman Feb 27, 2014 at 04:34 PM

Hi Retta-Leigh, sorry for the long lag in response. My wife and I went to San Diego for some sunshine.
Dennis Friedman Feb 27, 2014 at 04:38 PM

I've never been to the Netherlands but there was a National Geographic movie in which a family takes their yacht, "Yankee", through the Dutch canals. The movie was called "Yankee Sails Across Europe". We watched it 3 times a year. We all knew the story. Sometimes I ran the film with the sound off and we all dubbed it or I ran it backwards. But, no, I've never been. Are you going on the trip in May or in August?
Dennis Friedman Feb 27, 2014 at 04:39 PM

Sorry, I left out that we watched the movie in high school French class. Actually, I included it in the orignal paragraph which I managed to "X" out. I'm still figuring out this interface.

Dennis Friedman Feb 10, 2014 at 05:03 PM

My wife and I are signed up for the Barge and Bicycle: Holland and Belgium trip in August. If you are too, it would be great to start making connections.
Thanks! Dennis
Retta-Leigh Keil Feb 10, 2014 at 08:59 PM

Great! Where do y'all live? And are you serious bikers? ;(
Dennis Friedman Feb 13, 2014 at 08:26 PM

Hi, We live in the greater Seattle area. We were bicycle trip leaders in New England and Nova Scotia right after we were married but we're not serious bikers. Our biking tapered off and mine ended for a number of years due to an ankle problem. The problem was fixed a few years ago and we're easing back into it. How about yourself?

Retta-Leigh Keil Jan 02, 2014 at 02:19 PM

We had a sag wagon in Sicily, but it was never needed, as short stops every 30 minutes kept us going. However, we also had perfect weather. I am concerned about the wind and rain....but I guess someone has to be at the tail end---me!
