Hi Virginia - Cynthia here. I didn't ask that question - just signed up and I am single. Have you done other trips? If I had my druthers, I would have a travel partner, but I don't and I am hoping to make new friends. I went to Guatemala last year as a single and made several new friends.
Virginia Coombs Jul 18, 2015 at 02:56 PM

ThanksCynthia, Yes I have done other programs andt worked well without a travel partner.Just curious about this one with the barge.
Cynthia Weckbacher Jul 18, 2015 at 03:41 PM

They told me that all the rooms are double, but if you are single and willing to take a roommate, you will still pay the rate as if you have a partner
Virginia Coombs Jul 18, 2015 at 04:00 PM

thanks. that is helpful.

Virginia Coombs Jul 18, 2015 at 02:46 PM

I would be interested to know if this is a program for single travelers
Cynthia Weckbacher Aug 03, 2015 at 07:43 PM

Hi Jean & Bob. I took a look at the weather for the week we will be there- it looks like it's going to be in the 80's instead of what is the average temp listed in the itinerary. Just thought you might want to know! Cynthia

I would be interested in chatting about the upcoming August trip. Anyone else?

Hi! We will be on the August trip and are eager to chat. Have you been on a Road Scholar trip before? This is our first.

Oops ....forgot to add my name.....Jean Heidt
Cynthia Weckbacher Jul 10, 2015 at 01:33 PM

Hi Jean, my name is Cynthia. This is also my first! I am still dealing with details (and there are a lot). Are you doing any advance reading? I am going to visit a friend in Strasbourg first, so will be joining the trip in Brugge on August 15. I am hoping to be there when the bus gets there.

Hi Cynthia, I have read some of the suggested fiction, Niccolo Rising and Resistance, enjoyed both books. Also am reading nonfiction on Rubens called Master of Shadows by Mark Lamster. Quite engaging information about Rubens as a diplomat. My husband, Bob, and I will be joining the group at the Brussels a

Airport after a couple of days in Amsterdam. Strasbourg sounds great. Do you have any reading recommendations? Thanks. Jean
Premium Email Subscriber Jul 11, 2015 at 08:35 PM

Cynthia Weckbacher Jul 13, 2015 at 05:22 PM

I have a copy of Master of Shadows - that will be my reading for the flight. I read Resistance also and found a copy of the movie that was inspired by it - quite good. I am about halfway thru the Autumn of the Middle Ages - it's pretty dense, can't say I would recommend it unless you have a lot of time on your hands. I will most likely stop where I am, too many other interesting books to read!.
Cynthia Weckbacher Jul 13, 2015 at 05:24 PM

Have you done trips thru other organizations or on your own? I have been in Holland twice, but never to Belgium
Premium Email Subscriber Jul 13, 2015 at 06:17 PM

We have traveled on our own quite a lot. But the last time we were in Belgium was almost 40 years ago. Yikes! We thought the small group travel might be fun.
