We will be arriving in Venice on 11/7/14 at 2:05 p.m. - would love to get together with others for the trip to the hotel. (We are flying from Boston, SwissAir the evening of 11/6 - any chance anyone else is on the same flight?)

Cheryl Sep 19, 2014 at 12:19 PM

Is anyone else arriving in Venice on 11/6/2014? I was hoping to make the trek to the hotel with another program participant if possible.

Janet Weber Mar 10, 2014 at 11:44 PM

I stayed on after our program ended last year and did a day trip to Padua (Giotto fresco cycle in the Scrovegni Chapel, and the very moving pilgrimage site of the Basilica of St Anthony), and an overnight trip to Ravenna for the Byzantine mosaics. Both trips were outstanding, I was so happy to have had the opportunity to see these places.

Thank you

Florence, for sure - ! Fly into Florence airport at Peretola - I recommend the Orto de Medici Hotel, see their website, ask for a garden room, then a scenic train ride to Venice to meet the group.
George Dillon Mar 11, 2014 at 03:59 PM

Thank you.

George Dillon Mar 10, 2014 at 11:26 AM

any thoughts or suggestions about a three or four day trip before the Venice trip? Thanks. My wife and I are going on the November trip.

Carol Molten Mar 04, 2014 at 09:15 PM

Yes, the shuttle bus is very quick and costs only maybe 6 euros, then go across the big pedestrian bridge, in front of the train station, buy a vaporetto ticket (1 hour) and get off at Rialto. Then it's a 5 minute walk to the hotel - follow your map closely - ! Or water taxi to the back entrance of the hotel. You will save a considerable amount of money - over taking water taxi the entire way from the airport . . .!
PS to all - this was the BEST trip ever for me - !

Emma Mellon Mar 04, 2014 at 08:55 PM

Does everyone know that there is a land route that is cheaper? The ATVO shuttle bus to Venice-Piazzale Rome (3 Euros). then water taxi (6 euros) for 15 minutes to the hotel.
Is there a reason why I shouldn't go that way.?
Elizabeth Hyman Mar 04, 2014 at 09:26 PM

Are you able to handle your luggage by yourself? I am not sure that a water taxi from the Piazzale Roma would only be 6 euros. Do you mean the vaporetto?
William Crawford Mar 04, 2014 at 09:58 PM

No doubt the shuttle bus/water taxi route is less expensive, but I'm lazy and don't want to schlep my luggage any more often than necessary.
Elizabeth Hyman Mar 04, 2014 at 10:06 PM

I agree. At this point in my life I know that comfort is very important.

William Crawford Mar 03, 2014 at 11:59 AM

Grace and I are scheduled to arrive at noon on Friday March 7 via Air France Flight 1426 from Paris. Would like to share a water taxi.
Elizabeth Hyman Mar 04, 2014 at 11:35 AM

If you are willing to wait (and save a considerable amount of money) I would like to share a water taxi with you.
William Crawford Mar 04, 2014 at 03:01 PM

We can wait. Shall we meet at the boat dock?
Elizabeth Hyman Mar 04, 2014 at 08:39 PM

Thank you for responding so quickly. First, I would like to confirm that you are comfortable with a three way split. If so (wouldn't it be nice if we got lucky and picked up a couple more people?) meeting in the entrance area of the airport might be a better option. That is where the water taxi booth is located along with a snack bar, seats, and toliets. I look foward to hearing from you.
William Crawford Mar 04, 2014 at 10:09 PM

Yes, we are comfortable with a three way split, and yes, meeting at the water taxi booth is a better option.
Elizabeth Hyman Mar 04, 2014 at 10:17 PM

Great. I look forward to meeting you and Grace. I will confirm my flight status tomorrow and notify you if there are any changes. How will I recognize you? I have short, bright white hair and I will be dragging a brown/gray suitcase with a sa

Once again I hit the enter key twice rather then the shift key. The rest of sentence is with a sage green carry-on bag.
William Crawford Mar 05, 2014 at 08:52 AM

Grace also has short white hair. I will be wearing a black jacket and will have with us three black suitcases. We will also be wearing our Road Scholar ID's. Snowing here today. Can't wait to leave the snow and cold behind. See you Friday.
Elizabeth Hyman Mar 05, 2014 at 11:33 AM

I am coming from sunny Los Angeles. I can't check in on Lufthansa until late this afternoon. If there are any changes I will let you know.
