I enjoy hiking, but I don't like to stop and stand still while others take photos or lecture. When this occurs, would it be OK if I walk a little ahead or behind, always keeping the group in sight so I won't get lost?
Joyce Keay Dec 21, 2014 at 10:32 AM

The activity level of this trip is moderate so do not expect to go on hikes. The description of the Moderate activity level is: "Moderate" programs include activities such as walking up to a mile a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours." It is a beautiful trip but if you want to hike, you may want to choose another trip that has a more rigorous activity level. Hope this helps.

To all of you Iceland travellers, a good link is icelandreview.com. It has up to date news about the volcanic eruption and recent developments. Our group left the day that it erupted. We had no problems with our flights and all of us enjoyed this trip enormously.
Joyce Keay Sep 04, 2014 at 10:09 PM

You're still there, right?
Barbara Rydlander Sep 04, 2014 at 11:43 PM

Hi Joyce, our group left iceland on Aug. 28
Joyce Keay Sep 05, 2014 at 05:08 AM

Oh, Thanks for replying. I think there was another group that flew over on September 1? That's the group I'd love to hear from. I believe poster Patricia Keeley is over there now. She is the one who posted concern about the volcano.

Joyce Keay Sep 04, 2014 at 08:53 PM

I'd be interested to hear what the September tour is hearing about the Bardarbunga volcano. Have you been able to see anything?

Patricia Keeley Aug 23, 2014 at 06:00 PM

thanks everyone for your responses. It has
help quell some of the volcanic jitters.

Kate Simpson Aug 23, 2014 at 03:31 PM

A rather good website for info about the volcano and other tidbits about Iceland is http://icelandreview.com.

Barbara Rydlander Aug 23, 2014 at 01:56 PM

Hello Patricia,
Greetings from Iceland with road scholar. Our guide is really calm about this event which is far away from us. We just got the word that the eruption is taking place but everyone we have heard from takes all of this stride. We depart for REKYJAVIK day after tomorrow. Local planes are still flying, too early to say what will happen on day of departure for U.S. weather has been beautiful most of week. Hope we can do whale watching. Saw a pair of white-tailed eagles on our earlier boat trip. Most enjoyable journey so far.

anyone concerned that the aviation code has turned to red for the volcano that now has lava flows starting on the glacier nearby? red is the highest and means eruption imminent.
Joyce Keay Aug 23, 2014 at 01:33 PM

Either the airlines will have clearance to fly to Iceland or they will not.. Stay tuned. When are you scheduled to fly?
Patricia Keeley Aug 23, 2014 at 02:15 PM

sept. 1st. getting over there is one thing, but how about coming back?
Joyce Keay Aug 23, 2014 at 02:42 PM

I think Barbara Rydlander's post above ought to calm your fears.

Joyce Keay Jul 13, 2014 at 03:58 PM

With only a week to go before my flight (can't wait), I can't believe nobody else from the July trip is on the Discussion Board.
Helen Sternheim Jul 14, 2014 at 11:24 AM

Did this trip last summer. It is an excellent program.
Joyce Keay Jul 16, 2014 at 01:56 PM

I'm very glad to hear that :)
