Was finally able to book Cuba #20437 but not till Feb 8. Did not imagine many dates would be booked for double. I will be matched with a roommate. Anyone else traveling this date? I am from NW Florida.

Anyone have any up to date information about the electricity there? Are adapters/transformers required at the hotels where we will stay? If yes, anyone have recommendations about reasonable priced ones? Thanks.
Rena Sonshine Sep 02, 2015 at 02:56 PM

National electricity is 240. Most US devices and chargers say "120-240" input, so you'll be fine. Most outlets accepted slotted plugs, but you could bring an adapter that converts slots to round prongs just in case you want to use every outlet available. They're cheap (~$5) and small. If you own an old travel iron, you might already have an adapter.
Barbara R Carter Sep 02, 2015 at 03:23 PM

Amazon has adapters cheap. When I was in Cuba in February there was no problem with anything I needed to charge.
Barbara Rice Sep 02, 2015 at 03:57 PM

We were fine at Hotel Nacional in Havana. Had both. My hair dryer, etc. worked fine. Although, there was a hair dryer in the room, but just a cheap hotel dryer. Hotel Java in Cienfeugos only had 220 and I tried to use an adapter, but got just a stream of air - very little power. Had to use the hair dryer in the bathroom which wasn't the best. This dryer, you had to hold down the button the whole time drying. Once you lifted up your finger, the dryer turned off. Had sore fingers by the time I finished drying my hair, but it was doable and not really a big deal for the short time we were there.

I found a great adapter in a Coach outlet store. It's about 2 inches across & is set up so that you can select the prongs that match the outlet. They slide up from the central core. I've taken it to Peru, Ecuador, Tanzania and Iceland. I've found it has worked everywhere so far.

I'm a single woman going on the Oct. 6th Cuba trip. Are there any other single women who need a room mate? This will be my first Road Scholar trip.

Jessica Cossaboom Aug 28, 2015 at 04:51 PM

Hi! Mitch,
I'm also interested in visiting the temples in Havana. However, I don't believe the temples are in Havana, they are outside of the city. I could be wrong, but thought I'd ask the Tour folks when we are on the flight to Havana if I get the opportunity at that time.

Jessica Cossaboom Aug 28, 2015 at 04:27 PM

Hello! David! Yes! I'll be on the September 16th trip. Looking forward to meeting you then. Jessica
Mitch Blaust Aug 28, 2015 at 04:45 PM

Mitch Blaust Aug 28, 2015 at 04:46 PM

David Kideckel Aug 29, 2015 at 07:36 AM

Which temples? Sounds interesting?
Jessica Cossaboom Aug 29, 2015 at 08:02 AM

If I'm not completely mistaken, David they are Jewish Temples.
Rena Sonshine Sep 02, 2015 at 03:00 PM

Our group went to a Sephardic synagogue in Havana because Malpaso rehearses there. The old structure is a simple theater with a small photo exhibit in the hallway. The current sanctuary is a nondescript room upstairs.

David Kideckel Aug 28, 2015 at 01:31 PM

Hello, all. Is anyone out there going on the Sept 16 trip?

This is my first Road Scholar Trip. Still trying to learn the procedures.
James Stowe Aug 27, 2015 at 04:14 PM

We have traveled with Globus, Trafalgar, OAT, and GCT, but this will be our frist RS program as well. We too are pretty excited about the trip and getting out of north Georgia i January. In between, we headed to Peru and Bolivia next month with Globus and a cruise over Thanksgiving on the RCCL Allure with our kids and grands, but all we're talking about is the Cuba trip. It should be very interesting.
Nancy N Sep 02, 2015 at 06:48 PM

Mitch Blaust Aug 26, 2015 at 02:14 PM

Not sure if my first post made it, I don't see it Main question is value of CUC to American dollar?
Mitch Blaust Aug 26, 2015 at 02:15 PM

Now not sure why my name didn't show on this post
Barbara Rice Aug 26, 2015 at 05:00 PM

Here is what it was in July: 1.00 Cuban Convertible Peso = $1.00 USD. Note that there is a 10% penalty charged when exchanging USA dollars cash, so, you will only receive 87 centavos CUC for one USA dollar when changing the money, allowing for the 10% penalty and a 3% currency exchange fee.
