Program #20610RJ
9 Days | 8 Nights
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

For those going as a single ...Road Scholar is a great choice. People are always friendly and do not form cliques, etc. Keep in mind that most of our meals are as a group so we will be sitting together and even at breakfast when people come to eat at different times they always will just sit with someone else in the group. Also the groups leaders eat meals with the group which is another bonus. So anyone traveling alone ...do not be concerned ...I mentioned before that I've been a group leader in Philadelphia for 6 years and I've always had terrific people who are friendly with each other and enjoy meeting new people. Even people traveling as couples or with friends like to be with others ...that's part of the fun of travel.

Thought others on their way to Cuba would enjoy this article from Orion Magazine:

Is anyone going on the April 6 trip? I am traveling alone, not interested in a roommate, but hope to have people to talk to and maybe share photos afterwards.
Elizabeth Augustine Mar 30, 2015 at 12:07 PM

I'm sure you will bond with the folks on your trip. Have a great time.

Hi, Is anyone going on the May 18th trip? I'm new to RS and travelling alone. I'm really excited, especially for the music. Appreciate any tips on things you wish you had taken or definitely should take.
Elizabeth Augustine Mar 30, 2015 at 12:10 PM

This will be my second trip. This time, I'm bringing fewer warm clothes (for me) and more presents for people. Folks there love billed caps (I'm bringing some Red Sox hats). I'm also bringing makeup and cute socks for the chambermaids at the hotel. Remember that it's not like going to a city in the US where you can pop into a drug store. So if you're likely to need ibuprofen or extra toothpaste or anything else of that nature, bring it with you.

The new TIME magazine, April 6, 2015 cover article "Cuba-What will change when the Americans arrive" by Karl Vick. Haven't read it as yet but glancing thru so far the photos are terrific. Might be of interest.
Susan Sandler Mar 28, 2015 at 05:56 PM

Thanks, Barb....I will pick it up.

I will be going on the April 22 trip.....I will be solo and have a single occupancy room....anybody going on this date?

Anita Ramundo Mar 27, 2015 at 04:21 PM

I am a newbie with RS. My first trip is Cuba leaving from Miami May 7. Doing this solo any female traveler looking for a room mate? I enjoy Cuban music, food and literature looking forward to this adventure.

Hadn't thought to ask this but is anyone from the Philadelphia area going on the May 11 trip? Also ..Pamela ..thank you for the insight and especially the tip on renting a car/driver. I don't get the sense that wandering around on our own is that great an idea and after reading itinerary I'm actually more excited about what we are doing as a group and the access to the various artists, musicians, dancers, etc.
Terry Heller Mar 26, 2015 at 07:04 PM

No need to hire a car and driver. If you want to ride around you hire one of the old car taxis. It's fun. You really don't have very much free time.
