We are going on the trip on March 11, 2015. We would love to visit the synagogue in Havanah if there is time in our schedule. Also, is a visit with a baseball player now in the schedule?

Nancy Loomis Feb 28, 2015 at 06:17 PM

For any one who has taken the trip, I see a number of evenings "at leisure". Any suggestions as to best spend that time. Also will we be free to roam about. Thanks
Elizabeth Augustine Feb 28, 2015 at 07:27 PM

I often found that by the time dinner was done, there wasn't a lot of evening left. I think there are some jazz clubs though if you want to go out and about - the guides should have some suggestions.

Nancy Loomis Feb 27, 2015 at 05:06 PM

where did u hear about meeting a baseball player?
Elizabeth Augustine Feb 27, 2015 at 05:29 PM

Hi, we got a letter about it. If you look at the title and description of the trip, you'll see that they've changed accordingly.
Nancy Loomis Feb 28, 2015 at 12:43 AM

Thanks I will check it out. No letter received here about this

Looking forward to the warmth, sunshine and cultural experiences on the March 4th trip...I like the idea that there may be a baseball interaction. I'm a Phillies fan!

Elizabeth Augustine Feb 24, 2015 at 11:02 AM

I've just learned that the trip now includes meeting a baseball player. While this news does not do much for me (and leaves me wondering whether it was mandated by the Cuban government), I am planning to bring a used tee shirt or hat from our local team, which one of my friends has happily agreed to donate. If you are so moved, you might want to bring a baseball-related item from your local area.
Jeffrey Hamann Feb 25, 2015 at 05:48 PM

Thank You for that interesting suggestion. Will get some Milwaukee Brewers clothes.

Thomas Bruno Feb 20, 2015 at 02:28 PM

I just uploaded a 17 minute YouTube video with some travel tips for Cuba based on my observations from January 2015:

You may find it helpful. Those of you who have already been may disagree with my observations. So take it all with a grain of salt.
Eloise Mares Feb 20, 2015 at 05:17 PM

Tom, That was a great video. Thank you for doing that. We had a great group and our guides could not have been better. I think your comments were very accurate. I do think the food was not the reason one goes to Cuba but we did have a couple of exceptional meals. The dinner our first night at Hotel Nacional was delicious and the lunch at the farm was very special. Of course the mojitos were great everywhere.
Anne Fitzgerald Mar 01, 2015 at 04:45 PM

I loved your video, Tom, and found it very helpful. Thanks!

Nancy Klein Feb 16, 2015 at 02:24 PM

Can you suggest specific items that we should bring to donate that would be useful to the people with whom we will interact, please. We are leaving for Cuba on Feb. 25th and return March 5th.

We brought our items out to the bus one morning and they were all gathered together by the tour guide. We did not really witness the presentation of those items to the recipients. So I cannot comment on joy on anyone's faces, but many of us brought pens and pencils and colored markers and arts and craft items as well as bars of hotel soap and shampoos.
Elizabeth Augustine Feb 17, 2015 at 11:08 AM

Your program should provide some ideas. But you might consider aspirin, neosporin, bandaids, summer clothes, and women's underpants.

Jeffrey Hamann Feb 16, 2015 at 11:45 AM

I am traveling to Cuba April 6. I would like to know names of people, your state, and interests.
Anne Fitzgerald Feb 19, 2015 at 08:45 PM

I am going April 6 with Jack - we are from CT.
Jeffrey Hamann Feb 20, 2015 at 04:13 PM

I am going with Gayle. We are really looking forward to this trip.
Jeffrey Hamann Feb 20, 2015 at 04:15 PM

Can we change U.S. $ to Cuban in Miami?
Jeffrey Hamann Feb 20, 2015 at 04:17 PM

Jeff and Gayle are from Wisconsin and it is very cold here!!
Elizabeth Augustine Feb 25, 2015 at 01:23 PM

You change US $ to Cuban in Havana.

My wife is interesed in knowing if it is possible to attend church services on Sunday. Any thoughts?
Thomas Moseley Mar 01, 2015 at 03:33 PM

We are Mike and Christine from Derby Vermont
Anne Fitzgerald Mar 01, 2015 at 04:48 PM

Mapquest says the drive Sunday morning without stopping should take almost 2 hours. We do not yet know what tiem we are due to leave, but perhaps there will be time before we leave to attend services.
