Sheila, If you call Road Scholar they will tell you how many folks are signed up for your trip. Very few people post anything in this forum. RS will probably tell you how many solos are signed up but may not tell you if there are single women who are paired up.
Sheila Walker Sep 27, 2015 at 09:52 PM

Thanks. I have asked about roommates but they haven't been able to answer. Guess I'll just wait and find out.

Sheila Walker Sep 21, 2015 at 04:51 PM

How many people are enrolled in the October 11 trip?? Any other single women?
Nickie Sep 21, 2015 at 05:04 PM

So far, it looks like you and my husband and me!
Sheila Walker Sep 21, 2015 at 06:03 PM

Hmm...that would be a small group! Are you flying out of LA?
Nickie Sep 21, 2015 at 06:31 PM

Sheila Walker Sep 21, 2015 at 06:40 PM

Where do you live? I live in Oregon.
Nickie Sep 21, 2015 at 08:39 PM

We're in Nevada City, California.
Sheila Walker Sep 25, 2015 at 04:03 PM

Small world, I am from the Bay Area and visiting Nevada City often. IAre you flying out of Beijing on the 29th? I don't see your name on the passenger list for the Fhina Sir Lounge.
Nickie Sep 25, 2015 at 07:41 PM

Yes, we're flying back on the 29th, and we're on the lounge list. (I just checked. Jones/Wilkinson)
Nickie Sep 25, 2015 at 07:42 PM

Where do you live in Oregon?
Sheila Walker Sep 25, 2015 at 08:48 PM

Beautiful Bend where I hike, hike, hike.

Nickie Sep 18, 2015 at 12:36 PM

My husband and I are in the Oct 11th trip. Anyone else in that trip want to join the discussion?

Michael Fischer Sep 12, 2015 at 01:22 AM

This is a question for our tour leaders who I hope are monitoring this board. On our Road Scholar trips to India and Southern Africa we were told that we could bring school supplies or other items to donate to schools that we visited. I notice that in the information packet there is no information (and apologies if I've missed it) about this. Are we doing anything which would include an opportunity to donate materials of some sort and, if so, what is recommended to be brought? This is for the tour leaving Sept. 20. Thank you.
Binaya Rana Sep 16, 2015 at 11:10 AM

Michael, there is a school visit on the day after you arrive in Nepal, but that day is a public holiday here, so we might not be able to visit the school. It's on a Sunday, but that is not why it's a public holiday, Sundays are normal school days in Nepal.

Michael Fischer Sep 09, 2015 at 11:16 PM

Anyone (other than us) arriving in Beijing early for the Sept. 20 tour?

Nickie Aug 20, 2015 at 10:23 AM

Who will be our guide on the October 11th trip?

Nickie Jul 27, 2015 at 12:33 AM

Has anyone booked an upgrade on the flights to/from Beijing? I guess RS has us in economy seats?
Michael Fischer Jul 27, 2015 at 12:51 AM

My discussions with Road Scholar Travel before we booked this trip was that the flights were not upgradeable. Consequently we used miles to do our own flight -- arriving in Beijing a few days before the official start of the program (SFO-PEK United Business Class, Sep. 17-18) and leaving Bangkok a few days after the end of the official program (JAL BKK-HND-SFO Oct. 10). We find the combination of fly flat seating and arriving a few days earlier puts us usually in a non-jet-lagged mode to enjoy the trip.
Carol Hermann Jul 27, 2015 at 08:02 AM

Don't know whether things have changed or not, but I was on the Sep/Oct 2014 trip and did upgrade to on the LAX flights. We were on AirChina, a United partner. Cost to upgrade was about $3500, and I discovered several others from our RoadScholar group had done the same.

I focused today on visas since we’re just past the out 3 month period beyond which we shouldn’t be applying for it. I came across something that I overlooked because it wasn’t in the general directions but instead was on page 43 of the information packet. I figure if I missed it there may be someone else out there who did so also. Page 43 tells you how to complete items 2.5 and 2.6 of the visa application and it seems essential to me. Also, if you’re a Mac user, you might find that printing the application from Safari doesn’t work right while printing it from Acrobat does.
Nickie Jul 10, 2015 at 09:55 PM

Thanks, Michael. We're in the Oct 11th trip, and plan to complete our visas next week. We'll be sure to check Page 43 before doing so!
