We went to New Zealand last Oct/Nov. The weather was still fairly cool with lots of wind. I don't remember anyone dressing up at all for any of the activities. Pants, jackets, layers, etc. It was an amazing trip, hope you enjoy it.

Anne Lowry Jan 19, 2015 at 06:02 PM

The suggested packing list for this trip includes clothing "suitable for dress occasions." Can anyone tell me how dressy we need to be? Thanks.
Alice Wittmann Jan 22, 2015 at 02:22 PM

In my experience "dressy casual" is usually fine. I think New Zealand is pretty casual in all. Maybe a Chico's travel pant outfit would be suitable or a long skirt and top. Just thoughts off the top of my head.
Alice Wittmann Jan 22, 2015 at 02:23 PM

Anne - when are you going? We are on the May 14 - 26 trip.
Anne Lowry Jan 22, 2015 at 03:50 PM

I am going March 20 - April 1, so will not get to meet you, at least on this trip. Thanks for the suggestion re:dress.

Alice Wittmann Jan 11, 2015 at 10:17 AM

We are signed up for the May 14 - 26 program and would like to also visit Australia while we are in that part of the world. Does anyone have any suggestions for an Australian add on either before or after the dates of this NZ program?
Jane Jan 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM

There is an Odyssey Down Under trip that combines both Australia and New Zealand. I would contact Road Scholar or look at the trips listed for Australia to find it.

Does any one know who will be the leaders on the 1/3/15 trip?

Chris Lund Dec 06, 2014 at 09:42 PM

I am a woman who will be traveling solo on this trip. Had a "potluck" roomie on Scotland trip that was a great experience, but would be open to hearing from anyone looking for a roommate. Chris Lund

I am interested in the June trip. Does anyone know how soon I would need to sign up? I have never been on a RS trip before.

Premium Email Subscriber Nov 08, 2014 at 11:49 AM

Is there a particular time frame that's best to go? I want to go on this trip and not sure which one to sign up for. Also, I am single if someone wants to share a room on one.. I am flexible!
Susie Walkey Nov 08, 2014 at 02:27 PM

Hi Dianne, I too am interested in this trip. The May or June 2015 dates appeal to me because of the free airfare from L.A., but I don'tknow if that is a good time to visit New Zealand. I am also single and would like to share a room. This will be my first RS trip. Hope to hear from you. Susie

Hi, Susie. I checked with wikipedia and trip advisor, and the months with free air fare are the worst months to visit.. their coldest month is July. Road scholar airfare is 1500, looks like.. so it would be a bid trade off, but I will have to do a little more research before I jump on a bad weather venture.. probably the only time I will be on a trip to NZ or Australia.. My email is if you want to "chat" more, just between us and not the whole world out here.. thanks for responding.. I went to Ireland with RS and I would do it again; the whole RS thing is great.

Jeanne Ludlow Nov 04, 2014 at 11:30 AM

Will be traveling to New Zealand on Nov 9th as my first RS tour. Am looking forward to meeting everyone. Anyone else traveling alone?
Jane Nov 05, 2014 at 09:27 AM

Hello, Jeanne,
Jane Nov 05, 2014 at 09:28 AM

Sorry. I blasted myself out of the comment. Jeanne, I am on that trip and also traveling alone. This will be my first RS tour, also. Are you traveling thru LA on Sunday?
Jeanne Ludlow Nov 05, 2014 at 02:16 PM

Yes I am. My starting point is northern Michigan just below the Mackinaw Bridge.
Jeanne Ludlow Nov 05, 2014 at 02:18 PM

Did the same thing. That return key is dangerous. Hope to see you at LAX to get better acquainted.
Jane Nov 08, 2014 at 01:01 PM

I will look for you. Not sure what I will be wearing, but I will have a backpack on. I will probably have one of the Road Scholar tags either on my backpack or my camera case.
