Just got back on Nov.22nd. It was the trip of a life time. My first RS trip but hopefully there will be more. I definitely would plan on a face net , shop at Uluru has them. Pack as light as possible, makes it easier on you. I had a mid size suitcase that I was able to handle by myself and a back pack. Bring a small shoulder purse for outings when you don't need the pack. If you can, bring quick dry clothes that you can wash in room. I had a travel clothes line and did a few items every couple of days. bring clothes pins and a small bottle of liquid detergent. Comfortable shoes are a must including a good pair of closed toes sandals, such as Keens or Tevas, also sun screen, a good protective hat and sun glasses . Opera house is a little casual but definitely no shorts. Pack warm weather clothes as it will be HOT in several places. ENJOY it as much as I did .

Anne - why does one need a pair of closed toed sandals?
Anne Napier Nov 29, 2014 at 06:45 PM

It's not a necessity but helps keep the pebbles out from under your feet. And they usually come with really good support. I had apair of sketchers with me and after walking all day I changed the type of shoe I wore. If you wear Croc sandals I'd pack them , they are light wt and can be worn anyplace.
Sharon Koscik Nov 30, 2014 at 02:33 PM

Thanks for the information on what to pack! I'm packing light too. One month to go!

would anyone going on the odyssey down under be interested in getting me a kangaroo hat. I had one and lost it from my trip last year. if interested leave me a note and I will give you my email address.

We will be part of the program starting on Jan. 2. We have read Bill Bryson's "A Sunburned Country" and found it very entertaining. Is there anything else that is a "must" read before we depart? We are getting excited.
David Berkenbilt Nov 24, 2014 at 07:00 PM

The PBS series "Wild Australasia" was aired some time ago but may still be available from the website. It gave an excellent insight into the wildlife. However, the program is beautifully set up, and you'll have excelent orientation sessions each time you move to a new place, and the program description in the book, will make more sense after you've toured that part of the program.

Thanks Jo Ann - I will take your advice. Don't worry about shorts - at my age I don't wear them anymore!!!
