17 Days | 16 Nights
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Manoj Aryal Jul 30, 2014 at 04:42 AM

am Manoj - group leader who used to lead this trip in Nepal, anyone needs suggestions I would be happy to assist you all.
David Yu Aug 12, 2014 at 11:59 AM

Did you have anyone who needed to curtail the trip because of altitude sickness? That is what I am most afraid of.
Manoj Aryal Aug 12, 2014 at 02:36 PM

yes I did have but those were clients who had undergone major heart surgery otherwise this is a tolerable altitude, Tibet is a bit higher but there is absolutely NO altitude problem in Nepal and Bhutan.
David Yu Aug 12, 2014 at 02:44 PM

Thank you. I am relieved. Do you think taking Diamox is necessary?
Ernie Hurwitz Aug 14, 2014 at 10:59 AM

absolutely not!

Wearing skirts would not work well on this trip. We all wore shorts, pants, or capris. I think Road Scholar should change that information. Just wanted to warn you before you go. A skirt for dinner would work but mostly we wore our daily clothes. Remember you are in Chitwan on elephants too.
Ernie Hurwitz Jul 15, 2014 at 07:50 PM

i brought two skirts. i wore one every single day except when we were on the elephants. the skirt was full, not straight, and had deep pockets. it looked like the skirts they wore in old movies about the jungles of africa. it was, conservative.
Kate Ketcham Aug 04, 2014 at 11:13 AM

what time of year were you there? I am thinking of the denim skirt i wore in Kenya vs the indian cotton I used for the PCT
Ernie Hurwitz Aug 14, 2014 at 10:58 AM

hi kate, sorry for the delay. we went in november, the weather was perfect, and i wore a mid-weight cotton skirt almost daily, particularly in towns, but most happily on the trek itself. looked sooper with my hiking boots! right out of african queen...

Ernie Hurwitz Nov 05, 2013 at 09:56 PM

i'm bringing skirts and one pair hiking pants. i expect i'll wear the pants on the trek, and the skirts at other times. see you tomorrow!

Ruth Bortzfield Nov 01, 2013 at 08:22 PM

Thanks Jo Ann. I received the same advice from a previous hiker. I will probably do the same. Couldn't find your e-mail address.
Jo Ann Frazee Nov 01, 2013 at 08:36 PM

Ruth Bortzfield Nov 01, 2013 at 06:54 PM

My son and I are going on the Nov. 6 trip. Guides recommend skirts. What are you planning to wear to hike? Ruth Bortzfield
Jo Ann Frazee Nov 01, 2013 at 08:17 PM

Send me an email, address is below. I am taking a skirt but a previous hiker I wrote to said that skirts are not necessary, so I probably won't wear mine.

Jo Ann Frazee Oct 05, 2013 at 10:08 AM

I am going on the Nov 6 - 22 trip. Anybody else going?
Ernie Hurwitz Oct 30, 2013 at 08:34 PM

Ernie Hurwitz Oct 30, 2013 at 08:35 PM

Jo Ann Frazee Oct 31, 2013 at 09:08 AM
