Leslie Swain from Atlanta,Georgia going on February 5 trip. Got my visa today so am really
excited.I am going via JFK so hope to get in touch with someone else flying out from JFK-its a long flight!
I have a question for someone who has already been. I ordered a plug with USB port from Amazon for India but it does not look like the picture that came with the packet. Mine is 3 prong sort of like an English plug but the points are all round. I want to be able to charge my phone for photos and my kindle.
Can anyone tell me what the correct plug is?

Hi Leslie: My name is Ines Altemose and my husband and I are going on this trip from JFK on Air India AI102 departing at 2:25 PM. In terms of plugs, I suggest you get one that will work with multiple outlets. I bought a bunch of them but it was so many years ago, I don't remember where. I am sure Amazon would have them. I have never been there, but I will ask my sister who has and is married to an Indian man. My email is ialtemose@gmail.com.

Hi - We are a couple from New Jersey: David and Ines Altemose going on the Feb. 5, 2016 Best of India trip. Would love to connect with others prior to the trip.

Hi Jane! We are going on the Feb. 2 trip. Are there opportunities to get laundry done along the way? 3 weeks is a long time to pack for if hand washing in the hotel sink is all that can be expected! Thanks
Jane Stewart Nov 16, 2015 at 10:41 PM

All of the hotels/resorts/retreats had laundry services.
Sook Hee Scheibner Nov 18, 2015 at 09:59 PM

Great, thanks!

Jane Stewart Nov 13, 2015 at 03:16 PM

I have just returned from the Best of India trip. It was fabulous; no negative issues.
I am happy to answer any specific questions (jane@mccombgardens.com); but, don't want to spoil any of the wonder you will experience. Namaste!

Frances Wolff Oct 31, 2015 at 04:25 PM

Has anyone on the February 5 trip requested a roommate?

Sook Hee Scheibner Oct 31, 2015 at 02:15 PM

More questions: when we started looking at this trip a few years ago they stated that we would get to ride both an elephant and camel. Now it looks like neither are on the itinerary! And even the camel pulled carts state "when available". This is really disappointing to me.
Nancy D Oct 31, 2015 at 04:15 PM

I wouldn't be disappointed. I was quite happy to not ride an elephant. It seems a shame to ride this majestic itelligent animal. We did ride the camels at the Dera Village Retreat. It was a hilight. The camels seemed to be healthy, respected and well taken care of. If this is not available there are lots of other moments to look forward to India.
Sook Hee Scheibner Oct 31, 2015 at 04:44 PM

Oh, I agree it's not politically correct, but it's an unofficial goal of mine to ride as many species as possible! I think of riding as teamwork.
Vinod Suchak Oct 31, 2015 at 07:33 PM

I just returned from India. You will ride a cart pulled by camel. It was fun. We took the camel ride into the local village. Dera Village retreat is really nice. You will have a great time on this trip.
Sook Hee Scheibner Oct 31, 2015 at 08:22 PM

Good, I really chose this trip since there seemed plenty of opportunities to interface with animals!

Sook Hee Scheibner Oct 31, 2015 at 02:11 PM

Can anyone answer this question about the GenVisa application? If we have to send marriage certificates (to prove name change from maiden name), do they have to be certified, or do photo-copies suffice? And if they have to be certified copies, do they return them? Thanks. Also I have only one certified copy of my USA Naturalization document, and imagine it would take a few weeks to get a certified copy.
Vinod Suchak Oct 31, 2015 at 07:34 PM

Best to call GenVisa. They were very helpful.
Sook Hee Scheibner Oct 31, 2015 at 08:24 PM

Thanks, we are going to call on Monday as we have quite a list of questions.

Leslie Swain Oct 31, 2015 at 09:32 AM

John, thank you so much for the offer of help.
One of my co workers has a daughter who married and Indian and she knew who to contact here in Atlanta. I will go in on wednesday and
they take care of all of it -pictures etc. such a relief a the online application kept just freezing.
I am excited and hope to hear from anyone else on the February 5 trip. When you did the Greek islands was your guide Efi? She was just wonderful. I still worry about her as her family owned olive groves on Lesbos and she went back every fall to help with the harvest and Lesbos seems to be the epicenter of the
Syrian migration.
