Is anyone concerned about Zika virus in Colombia?
Howard Silver Feb 03, 2016 at 09:27 PM

We are scheduled on the February 12th trip. Since we are not pregnant or intending to become pregnant, it is not a major concern..

Thomas Vessely Dec 29, 2015 at 11:25 AM

FYI Due to falling oil prices, the COP has lost 32% of its value against the dollar in the last 6 months. It's a cause of great concern for Colombians, but good news for tourists.

Thomas Vessely Oct 14, 2015 at 10:09 PM

I am seriously considering this program, but I have one concern. I am especially interested in photography. Will the schedule allow ample time for that? Thanks in advance for your replies.

I and my wife lived and worked in Barranquilla, Colombia for a year. Colombia is one of those hidden gems off the tourism radar. Beautiful terrain at every turn and friendly helpful people at every turn. We're happy to see Road Scholars is taking tours there. We have done several tours with Road Scholars. Finally Colombia and Cuba are on the itinerary.

My friend and I took this tour in July 2014 and had a great time and felt completely safe throughout. Great hotels and locations. It's a beautiful country with friendly, warm and considerate people who are very passionate about their country. No doubt Road Scholar local guides made every effort to ensure participants had a great time and be safe.

Thank you Christina. I am so looking forward to going. We're looking forward to an exciting and interesting adventure...any other interesting destinations, please advise. We are getting tired of EU and red roofed cities
Christina Bellamy Oct 08, 2014 at 02:20 PM

Interesting that you should mention the EU. My friend and I just returned from a wonderful trip to Provence France___our first trip to the EU after 7 years of traveling together. Ecuador and the Amazon was a great trip. Other great places we traveled to that you might enjoy are Mongolia, Namibia, Oman & E

We would like to go on this trip to Columbia but have some concerns re: security. Anyone out there have similar thoughts? Or, better similar plans to travel in Columbia, SA? We are planning to go early 12/04/14.

Howard Ellegant Oct 25, 2013 at 05:42 PM

In 1964-1966 I was a Peace Corps Volunteer living in Medellín. In the last five years I have been back to Colombia 3 times. My wife and I have volunteered to help with English classes in schools in disadvantaged neighborhoods in Medellín. Colombia is a wonderful country. People are friendly. Food is good and surprisingly varied. See: http://www.colombia.travel/en/international-tourist/colombia. Tourism has been increasing 5 to 7 percent each year since 2010. The economy is doing well. Medellín especially is a great city with several wonderful museums. The Museum of Antioquia with a plaza filled with huge Botero statues is a must see and great photo op. And all the Botero works inside! Too bad the tour does not spend more time there! Cartagena is also wonderful. There are three Spanish colonial Caribbean cities that are musts: Havana, San Juan and Cartagena. Especially in January and February with temperatures in the 80s. The Gold Museum in Bogotá is spectacular and a smaller one in Cartagena is a gem. My wife and I hope to get to Medellín again this winter. Buen viaje a todos.

My husband and I are booked to go 12/6/14. But, we have some reservations since discovering that the State Department has a warning on traveling to Columbia.
Paula Jacobson Sep 30, 2014 at 06:42 AM

Can you ease our minds re: safety. We are active senior but don't want to be flip about security. Thanks for your advice.
Paula Jacobson Sep 30, 2014 at 06:56 AM

website failed to go through...any other thoughts?

Christina Bellamy Jul 19, 2013 at 01:42 PM

My friend Janice and I are taking this tour in November. Would love to hear from from earlier participants about their experience and any helpful tips. Also, would love to connect with anyone else who may be taking the tour in November.
Paula Jacobson Sep 30, 2014 at 06:44 AM

We are planning to go on 12/4/14 but we have some reservations re security. Do you have the same concerns? The State Department has a warning on traveling to Columbia.
