Terri, thank you for your information. Luckily I've already had the Hepatitis A&B vaccines. Thank you again for the information.

Ellen Marks Sep 10, 2014 at 08:18 AM

Who is on the Oct 8 2014 trip? Kindly respond! I am a beach gal from SC traveling w/o my DH this time, and have signed up for a roommate. Reading as much as I can about Galapagos/MP/Ecuador/Peru before the trip!
Todd Betterton Sep 10, 2014 at 09:22 AM

Todd Betterton Sep 10, 2014 at 11:23 AM

Andrea from the Toronto area had said previously that they were joining us, so that would make 11...a month from today we will be in Galapagos...Woo Hoo!!

Wanda Stephens Sep 10, 2014 at 02:33 AM

I was wondering if the recommended vaccines on the CDC site are necessary, ie typhoid and yellow fever?
Todd Betterton Sep 10, 2014 at 09:17 AM

My doctor says no...
Road Scholar Sep 10, 2014 at 11:12 AM

No vaccines or inoculations are required to attend the program. However, based on your personal medical history, some participants may be at higher risk than others so you should certainly consult you own primary care physician who is aware of your medical records.
Terri Rappaport Sep 10, 2014 at 11:14 AM

A couple we met on this trip last year contracted Hepatitis A (fortunately mild cases) likely when in South America. After speaking with my physician, I decided to get the vaccine as I plan on future trips to South America. While Hep A is rare in the US, it is found in less developed regions, including South America. Our guides were great about advising us what not to eat or drink, including raw vegetables and fruit likely washed in local water. However, this is a discussion with your doctor. Mine said she hadn't considered Hep A in our pre-trip discussions on vaccines, but now will keep it in mind for future patients who travel to regions that are known for Hep A. The CDC website has info on Hepatitis A outside the US.

We receieved an email from Natalie at Holbrook travel some weeks before the trip with sizes and pricing etc. Then we picked them up on the boat.

Jo Anne Kusudo Aug 25, 2014 at 01:50 PM

I rented the wetsuit on board the "Galivan." I can't remember the cost.

Jean Rhame Aug 25, 2014 at 10:02 AM

Does anyone have a recommendation on renting a wetsuit?

Lillian Oberjohn Aug 25, 2014 at 11:58 AM

Jean, it all depends on when you are going. Our trip was in early June and we did use the wetsuits.

Wanda Stephens Aug 20, 2014 at 01:25 AM

Carol, I'm not sure when your trip is but I would call as soon as you decide bc there is a limit to the number of tickets sold daily to enter Machu Picchu. I just happened to call Holbrook Travel today and found out the additional day is $95. You can catch the bus at 5:30 am to arrive when it opens at 6 and you have to return at 11 am to allow time to join the rest of your group for the day. I spoke with Deb and she was very informative. I chose to return the next day bc I will never be back there again and felt the cost was worth the experience. Hope this is helpful.

Jennifer Galovich Aug 19, 2014 at 05:48 PM

I don't recall the exact price of the ticket -- we inquired with the Holbrook Travel people for the answers to those questions. As I recall the money was significant and the time frame was short.
