When I was on this trip in February, I was more interested in heat in every hotel on the Caribbean side, especially at the Gulf coast, Arenal, and the last resort above 7,000 ft. The RS selected hotels in Costa Rica are equivalent to the US or 3-4 star hotels in Switzerland or Germany and are NOT to be compared to a third world country.

Some hotels don't have A/C, will that be a problem in January?

Since much of Costa Rica is explored, it is necessary to travel big distances by bus. However, you will experience Costa Rica fully.in May 2014 the group was in a new location approximately every two days, figure 5 or 6 bus trips, which in themselves were entertaining, as landscape and vegetation changed from place to place.
Don't miss this trip.

I'm considering this trip and am curious about the bus rides. I don't mind them, but want to maximize my seeing the sights and minimize travel time. Can someone comment on length and number of bus rides? thanks!

Has anyone had experience with the Trip Cancellation Insurance? Is it relatively easy to use if you need it. I know some travel insurance puts many roadblocks in your way.
Thanks.

We have used this as has our sisterinlaw. They say that you can use it for any reason, but it is easiest if you have doctor statements etc. My husband was hospitalzied 3 days before we were to leave on a trip to Chile. It paid off the $10000. with no problem. Our sister in law collected on it last year for her husband and it was not a problem.

I was on this same trip in February this year, 2015. CR is not Mexico or West Africa. There were 18 on my trip. To my knowledge no one had any unusual gastritis. The one ER visit was from a person who fainted, most likely from dehydration. RS staff and medical services received high marks from all I heard. I'd be more concerned about drinking restaurant or hotel water in a large US city. Yes, I've experienced the undesirable aspects of travel in Mexico, plus I lived for two years in Nigeria. Need I say more. Maurice E. Edwards, Ph.D. In Cellular Physiology, Professor emeritus

My husband and I went on this trip in February. We are very cautious, so we made sure we were up-to-date as far as vaccinations and shots recommended by the CDC were concerned. Our guide always let us know whether or not we could safely drink the water in the hotels and restaurants, and bottled water was available on the bus as needed to fill up our water bottles. I was careful to drink only the water that he said was potable, and I had no problems. A few people on our trip did have gastric issues that were quickly resolved with immodium. Do what makes you feel comfortable. Have a great trip--we did!
