Any info about the electrical current onboard? david m
Stuart Litt May 15, 2013 at 10:18 AM

No. I don't, although I would be pretty sure that the general power is 220v 50Hz. There may be a low-power 120v outlet in the bathroom for charging shavers, etc but not running a hair drier. Some inexpensive hair driers have dual-power capability. Most device chargers are dual power, but not some electric toothbrush chargers. In any event, questions like yours may be addressed in the detailed info package we will receive a few months before departure time. If you need to know right away, ask Road Scholar and they'll find out for you.

To Litts: Our friends looked up our trip & saw your name...they were in Sicily with you recently: Susan & Jeffrey Schwartz...small world! Ginger Maiman
Stuart Litt Apr 04, 2013 at 09:23 AM

Ginger and David: We remember Susan and Jeffrey well! They were excellent travelling companions. Eastern Odyssey is by far the most ambitious trip we've ever planned. Edith and I look forward to your company on this excellent adventure.
David Maiman Apr 04, 2013 at 09:51 AM

This is more than ambitious for us...we have never travelled in a group, nor have we ever taken a cruise (other than an expedition boat in Galapagos)!

Will we need immunizations?
Stuart Litt Mar 22, 2013 at 05:01 PM

The Center for Disease Control's website has country-by-country immunization recommendations at http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/list.htm. For a trip into the South American jungle, we visited the Travel Medicine department at our local medical center for consultation and shots. It cost us $250 per person plus shot fees, and that was a few years ago and it was not covered by medical insurance. This time I plan to do my own research and go to my regular doctor to get any shots I need.

Are there inexpensive options for doing laundry (other than using the cabin's sink)?
Stuart Litt Mar 22, 2013 at 04:53 PM

We called the U.S. representative of the ship company and was told that there is no self-service laundry facility onboard. However, for those taking the full Academy laundry charges will be discounted by 50%. I suspect that we will use some of our free time ashore to find inexpensive laundries or laundromats.

Interesting how much we DON'T know!

Is there wi fi onboard? if not all the time, while in port?
David Maiman Apr 13, 2013 at 12:19 PM

what have you learned about wi-fi? david m
Premium Email Subscriber Apr 13, 2013 at 02:13 PM

nothing.
Stuart Litt Apr 17, 2013 at 11:48 PM

There is WiFi on board but on ships it is usually limited to a specific lounge area. The fee is kind of high, I think I heard it is 12 Pounds Sterling for 2 hours of use. I plan to go to hotel lobbies or internet cafes when in port.
David Maiman Apr 19, 2013 at 04:12 PM

Thank you, d
