While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Expressing desire to meet others who are taking this tour # 15146 from Jan 6-26, 2015. I am going to join in.
Cheryl Perlitz-Marquardt Jan 03, 2015 at 11:47 PM

My husband tom and I are on the trip jan 6-26. We are using miles awards Thor flights so we will arrive a day earlier than the group and stay a few extra days in Hanoi at the end. We are flying out of Chicago to Tokyo. See you in a few days.

Dan Cope Oct 10, 2014 at 10:55 PM

would anyone be interested in joining us on 11/5/2014 in Bangkok for a tour of Ayutthaya, or perhaps just sites closer to the heart of Bangkok?
We're taking "Journey Into the Heart of Asia" tour that departs the USA on 11/4/2014 and begins in Bangkok on 11/6. My wife and I are touring Japan on our own for a week before flying to Bangkok on our own and we arrive in Bangkok on Nov 4. We explored www.toursbylocals.com and found one day tours of Bangkok and the surrounding area that look interesting, and that charge the same price for 4 people that they charge for 2.
Please let me know if you might be interested in getting to know one another before starting the RoadScholar tour by splitting the cost of a one day tour on Nov 5.

Dan, glad you are going on this trip. Judi and I went on this trip in March of this year.
Dan Cope Oct 11, 2014 at 03:04 PM

Randy, we wanted to join you on that earlier trip! Any tips you can offer, now that you're a vetran of this adventure? Any suggestions for how best to spend an extra 1.5 days in Bangkok, ahead of the tour?
Randy Ratner Oct 11, 2014 at 06:45 PM

Dan, I sent an email to you

Hello, I am taking this tour January, 2015. Can anyone provide a suggested packing list? What kind of clothes should I bring. What about shoes?
Irma Honda Sep 03, 2014 at 01:20 PM

I went in January of this year; weather was pleasantly warm, not too hot(except for Bangkok) a light sweater or shawl useful, especially on Halong Bay; no need for dressy clothes. Our tour leader took us to local places to have laundry done very cheaply (by weight rather than by piece). As for shoes, whatever you are most comfortable walking in, keeping in mind that shoes must be removed when visiting temples.

We went in feb of 2012. We had very hot days in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, and cool rainy days in Hanoi. The travel advice to dress in layers

Continuation from above post. This message board is NOT user friendly! which is probably why it isn't as helpful as the OAT message board. Anyway, I brought 2 long, colorful skirts because they are comfortably cool, and always look clean, plus they compress easily.
Shelley Molnar Sep 04, 2014 at 01:02 AM

One pair of sneakers and one pair of sandals did the trick for me. No one dresses up, we all wear the same things over and over, and the laundry service is indeed cheap and fast

I am on the Oct. 28 departure from LA. Like to hear from others who are enrolled for the same departure date.

Randy Ratner Feb 06, 2014 at 10:47 PM

Judi and I are very much looking forward to this trip, which is our third in 18 months with Road Scholar.

Denny Briley Feb 06, 2014 at 11:13 AM

Really looking forward to this trip. If we left KC today we would have a 100 degree temperature change when we arrive in Bangkok. -10F to 90F WOW!

Denny Briley Feb 04, 2014 at 02:19 PM

Hello Everyone, the Brileys and the Princes will be traveling to Bangkok via Tokyo departing from Denver. Anyone else on those flights?
Judi Ratner Feb 04, 2014 at 02:44 PM

Randy and I depart from DFW on Feb 11th and fly directly to Tokyo, connecting on LAN and getting into Bangkok very late on the 11th and will be at the hotel already on the 12th.
Randy Ratner Feb 08, 2014 at 04:22 PM

Japan Air- not LAN

Marcia Landry Feb 02, 2014 at 06:24 AM

Hi - I'm Marcia Landry from Ft. Collins, Colo. But now I'm in Phnom Penh visiting my daughter who works in Cambodia with USAID. I am really looking forward to meeting you all next week! I traveled in Asia in 1984, but did not go to the countries we'll be visiting with RS. I'm an avid quilter and fabric junkie.
Denny Briley Feb 04, 2014 at 02:16 PM

Since you are already in the neighborhood, can you give us any tips on what to pack as far as clothing. Should we bring slacks, capris, or skirts? I hope we can find some fabric while we are on the trip also. Judy Briley
