Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Thanks Mary Ann and I look forward to meeting you and Jody. As it turns out, I decided to fly into Portland on Sept 18. So if anyone will be coming in a day early, and you'd like to meet up, please let me know. --Michelle

My friend Jody and I will arrive on Sept. 19 early afternoon, so we won't be there to join you in the morning Michelle. We come from Kansas. Looking forward to the trip. A little concerned about the fires, but I assume the leaders will let us know of any changes or problems.

Hi, I'm on the Sept. 19 trip and will be arriving in the morning of the 19th. Is there anyone who would like to explore Portland before the start of the program in the evening?

I am leaving on Friday 8-8 from. ORD Chicago. Just went to the fire OR. Forestry web sites but I know nothing about the state of OR I haven't a clue where the fires are. I hope we can get some information from Roads Scholars

Rita, we fly out of Moline through Chicago. We are on the 12:07 flight out of O'Hare, what time do you leave?
Rita Odegaard Aug 05, 2014 at 06:26 PM

I am flying out of ORD at 10:15. Ian concerned about the fires, which I raised with Roads but haven't heard anything back.

I received this response from my request. We are closely monitoring wildfire activity along this program’s route. We watch for road closures and evacuation notices, and we have an alternate route planned. Our office stays ahead of the program and communicates with group leaders to update them when the program is underway.

Rita, I can't find my list with the email addresses. Is there any way you could get a copy to me? I've got some pictures to share.

Patricia D'Alessandro Aug 03, 2014 at 11:32 PM

We are leaving this Friday for our trip. Does anyone know if the wildfires are close to where we are going to be?

(I was on this trip last year.) Maybe in the SW corner of the state. These seem authoritative webpages to follow: (1) (map) http://www.nwccweb.us/information/firemap.aspx and (2) (text) http://wildfireoregondeptofforestry.blogspot.com/

I'm hoping to make contact with folks on this trip starting July 4, 2014 - especially other women travelling alone.
See you in Portland! Nina Klippel

I'll be on the trip that begins Aug. 23, 2013. I hope to spend 1 or 2 extra days in Portland before or after. I'm interested in meeting others who will be on the trip.
