My husband and I will be arriving at the hotel late morning on 8/21 and are thinking about what to do for the day. We are looking at some walking tours in Portland. Anyone interested in sharing a taxi...or know if the light rail is easy to navigate?

Will be on the August 14 trip and need roommate. Plan to spend 1 day before and after. would like to hear from others on this trip, this date.
Rebecca Severin May 17, 2015 at 07:57 PM

Hi Donna, I do want this trip but haven't decided on the date yet. But I will be looking for a roommate. Where are you coming from? Have you been on other RoadScholar trips? What are you looking forward to on this this trip?

Coming from Alabama. been on 2 other trips, California Medley and Florida Coral Reef Snorkeling. Love nature and trying to visit all Natioonal Parks. know some other ladies going on this trip. I am very energetic 68 year old and have enjoyed other trips. They are at my pace, very informative and see great things. Let me know what you decide
Rebecca Severin May 18, 2015 at 03:38 PM

Hi Donna - I've just enrolled for the Aug 14 trip. I'm also 68, retired for 2 years and have been on 3 trips. Also enjoy nature - especially bird watching and all 3 trips have included National Parks (Zion, Bryce, Death Valley, N. rim of Grand Canyon & Mt. Rainier.) All great trips. I'm coming from California so only 1 hr flight. Wanted to hear back from you before I put you down as roommate.
Donna Corrigan May 18, 2015 at 04:26 PM

My friend Jody and I will arrive on Sept. 19 early afternoon, so we won't be there to join you in the morning Michelle. We come from Kansas. Looking forward to the trip. A little concerned about the fires, but I assume the leaders will let us know of any changes or problems.

Michelle Greenberg Aug 11, 2014 at 10:38 AM

Hi, I'm on the Sept. 19 trip and will be arriving in the morning of the 19th. Is there anyone who would like to explore Portland before the start of the program in the evening?

Annette Jacobs Aug 08, 2014 at 06:57 PM

I am leaving on Friday 8-8 from. ORD Chicago. Just went to the fire OR. Forestry web sites but I know nothing about the state of OR I haven't a clue where the fires are. I hope we can get some information from Roads Scholars
Patricia D'Alessandro Aug 04, 2014 at 11:32 PM

Rita, we fly out of Moline through Chicago. We are on the 12:07 flight out of O'Hare, what time do you leave?
Rita Odegaard Aug 05, 2014 at 06:26 PM

I am flying out of ORD at 10:15. Ian concerned about the fires, which I raised with Roads but haven't heard anything back.
Patricia D'Alessandro Aug 05, 2014 at 11:12 PM

I received this response from my request. We are closely monitoring wildfire activity along this program’s route. We watch for road closures and evacuation notices, and we have an alternate route planned. Our office stays ahead of the program and communicates with group leaders to update them when the program is underway.
Patricia D'Alessandro Aug 26, 2014 at 07:28 PM

Rita, I can't find my list with the email addresses. Is there any way you could get a copy to me? I've got some pictures to share.
