ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
If you’re looking for a more flexible schedule with ample independent time and several meals on your own, then our FLEX learning adventures are made for you.

Can someone who is on this program respond to the following questions?
1. Where is the best place to get some local currency?
2. Is it possible for people on this program to have the capability to make and receive calls on their cell phones?
3. Where do we get Travel Cards in London?

Shirley Nelsen Apr 03, 2014 at 12:24 PM

Yes, Esther is correct. I used the wrong terminology re the adaptors and converter. Any travel store, or a university book store, had a good selection. Yes, I did use my iPhone for the same things.

Esther Weinstein Apr 03, 2014 at 11:50 AM

I believe, according to the first info. packet, that you need only one converter but two adapters. Both UK and France run on 220 volts, US on 110. As to phone issues, I opt to take my iPhone, turn off the cell access (airplane mode) and use it for free wi-fi. Plus the city maps subway maps and stuff I have already downloaded.

Shirley Nelsen Apr 02, 2014 at 12:52 PM

Hi Arthur, I purchased a set of converters for @ $30 at a travel store. You need a different converter for each country (France and England) If you are not going to England, one converter will work. But it is nice to have the whole package. I took turns charging my cell phone and iPad. I think the travel store will know all you need to know. Let me know if you have further questions. Also, I have an iPhone with Verizon. I rented an international phone for the trip, but never used it. I would not do that again. You CAN take photos with any phone

Does anyone know what sort of adapter we should bring for computer, cell phone and camera? Consumer comments online indicate many do not work as advertised.

Anyone staying on in Paris after the Apr. 4 trip?
Susan M Mar 26, 2014 at 04:32 PM

Yes, we are staying one extra day to go to Versailles

I just booked into the July 25 London/Paris tour and have a proposition for any other member of this tour. Don't know how many of you are Downton Abby fans, but visiting Highclere Castle has become very popular and most side tours are totally sold out. I have found one private tour that still has availability on July 24. This would require arriving 2 days early in London. For one person it is very costly, but if 3 others are interested the price drops to around $230 each. If there is any interest please let me know and I can provide more specific details. Caroline (

Doesn't look like this plan will work, so please ignore my idea.
Caroline Taverna Apr 02, 2014 at 05:19 PM

Highclere Castle was totally sold out, but I have found a fabulous manor home tour if anyone is arriving ahead of time. I am planning on doing the manor homes from July 23 thru July 25. If anyone wants details, please let me know.
Edith Irwin Apr 04, 2014 at 11:26 PM

I'll be in London from July 21 until the program begins on the 26, so am looking for other trips, also. Theater & Scotland are possibilities, but our manor trip sounds good, too.
Edith Irwin Apr 04, 2014 at 11:26 PM

Oops -- that's "your" not "our."

Esther Weinstein Mar 25, 2014 at 04:06 AM

It looks like any one of the evenings in London could work. I am not inclined to buy ahead, but rather wait and see how the days evolve. (I come from Las Vegas. I'm a gambling woman.) I've done last minute concert tickets for years--in New York, in Madrid, in Tokyo, in Vienna. I usually score. If not, I do something else. Admittedly not everyone's preferred mode. then again I am looking for a single ticket. Sixth trip with Road Scholar, some domestic, some foreign.
Susan M Mar 25, 2014 at 08:19 PM

The theater sounds good to my friend and me. Keep us in mind! My son works in Vegas, VP of marketing for Caesar's Palace.
Shirley Nelsen Apr 02, 2014 at 12:54 PM

I suggest to ALL OF YOU that if they still have Kensington Palace on the tour, I'd skip it. It is a tour of the dresses of the queens, that's about it. I encourage

Go to Winston Churchill's museum and bunker. We intended to stay less than an hour, we stayed almost four hours!!!! So so worth the trip
