I'm arriving in Kalispell about 1-2 on this Saturday. Anyone around that afternoon to get together?

Beth Brown Sep 10, 2014 at 09:38 PM

Is anyone planning to use Glacier Charters to go from the airport to the park on Sunday, Sept 14? If so what time?

Marilyn Johnson Sep 10, 2014 at 01:26 PM

I just checked with Road Scholar. This is advertised as "small group", 10-16 participants at most, but there are 40 people signed up. Anyone else bothered by that?

We did this trip last month and it was wonderful. Group meetings have the entire group but it breaks into small groups for hikes and for travel along the Going to the Sun Trail.
Marilyn Johnson Sep 10, 2014 at 07:24 PM

Janice - Thanks for the reply. How was the weather? Do I really need waterproof shoes for the boat trip on Lake McDonald?
Beth Brown Sep 10, 2014 at 09:36 PM

I think breaking into small groups will work well.
Janice Feinstein Sep 11, 2014 at 12:55 AM

Waterproof shoes not necessary if you stay on dry rocks when stepping into rafts on the Middle Fork raft trip; some people stepped directly into the water and got wet feet. I usually wore a baseball cap, and hooded jacket over a light sweater and T-shirt. Bring a collapsible umbrella as there was intermittent rainfall. Boat trip on Lake McDonald is simply stepping onto a boat from the pier near the lake. The raft trip worried me in advance but water was calm, no rapids, really relaxing. Do bring a warm sweater that fits under a light rain jacket.

Would like some examples of warm, waterproof clothing. Am trying to get clothing together for trip Sept 14.
Beth Brown Aug 21, 2014 at 05:05 PM

Jean, I tried to post a reply to you yesterday, but I don't see it here now. Did you see it? Are you still looking for examples?
Jean Hurston Aug 21, 2014 at 06:50 PM

No it's not here. Please try again. Thanks!
Beth Brown Aug 22, 2014 at 02:36 PM

OK. Here's my take on clothes. I have rain pants and jacket, which are good for wind protection too. Hiking pants ove long johns if needed. Wool socks, gloves, and hat &/or scarves. That's pretty much what I took when I went to Alaska a couple of years ago. Hope this helps. :)
Jean Hurston Aug 22, 2014 at 04:31 PM

yes, it does and thank you, Beth!

I'm arriving at Kalispiel airport on August 31 and would love to share a ride to Lake McDonald. My flight gets in early afternoon.
Lily Chin Aug 23, 2014 at 02:41 PM

Linda, I tried posting a comment a few days ago and retrying today. Best bet may be to call Glacier Charter next Wednesday. This is why they gold my yesterday. Depending on how many people need a ride to the hotel, they might use a van.... more people the cost per person will be less. Be sure that you note that you are with the Road Scholar group. Hope this helps.

My wife and I will be attending the Aug 17-Aug 22 trip to Glacier and wondering if anyone has checked the prices of the shuttle vs taxi?

Janice Feinstein Jul 21, 2014 at 07:12 PM

Hello all. Just joined this group. My husband and I and another couple are doing this trip on August 17-August 22. Our group includes one serious birder/hiker and three casual stoller/gawkers. We will arrive at Lake McDonald one night early. It was impossible to get the pre-night rooms several months ago but I kept trying and the rooms we needed eventually opened up there, so I cancelled our reservation at a hotel in Kalispell.
