8 Days | 7 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Look forward to the October 11th Katy Trail - anyone arriving early in the day and want to explore?
Bob Pinnick Oct 06, 2014 at 09:03 AM

Roseanne and I (Bob) are arriving late Friday Oct 10. If it is not raining, I plan to do a short ride Saturday morning. Roseanne may want to explore. We are meeting with some friends Saturday afternoon.

I am going on the Sept 6th ride and bringing my own bike. If I have bike trouble, will there be help along the way for me??
Roy Stovall Aug 21, 2014 at 04:57 PM

Yes, I was in the October 2013 trip and brought my own bike, the group is accompanied by a Sag Wagon with mechanic who will perform minor repairs or adjustments on your own bike as well as the rental bikes. Fortunately, my bike needed no adjustments. I was told if I had a flat they would fix it and possibly charge a fee for the tube. The Sag Wagon guy owns a bike shop along the trail so he knows how to fix them.

I'm going on the 10/11/14 trip. Who else will be there? Anyone ride this in October 2013 have suggestions or things they'd like to share?
Jim Montgomery Jul 14, 2014 at 03:45 PM

Hi Carolyn. My wife Becky and I are going on this trip. I've done this ride on my own in October a few years ago. The trail goes through beautiful areas along the Missouri River. Weather was variable from very nice to cold and rainy, so I'm taking rain gear. Looking forward to it.
Carolyn Russ Jul 14, 2014 at 06:30 PM

Hi Jim, Thankyou for responding. I've lived in SW Florida for 12 years now, so cold will be new! Do you have a suggestion for type of rain gear and footwear for this ride?
Jim Montgomery Jul 14, 2014 at 10:23 PM

REI is a good place to start for rain gear. Most times I've ridden in the rain I just wear a jacket and shorts. I've found the pants get cumbersome. That said, I am going to take some rain pants in case it gets cold and rainy at same time. I'm just wearing standard athletic shoes, but taking 2 pair in case I need to let one dry out. The weather should be nice fall weather that time of year, and I hope we won't have to use rain gear, but it's good to have just in case.
Carolyn Russ Jul 21, 2014 at 06:07 AM

Thank you, Jim, that was very helpful. I like the two pair of standard athletic shoe idea and think I will do the same. No REI anywhere near SW Florida, but I'm sure I'll find something in the way of biking rain gear between now and then.

I'm thinking of signing up for the September ride. Does anyone know what the weather is like in that area in September?
