We are coming on the June 22, 2015 trip w/ two grandchildren. There is more info on getting to/from the airport to Friday Harbor than RS seems to show on its website. There's a smaller shuttle (a 10 seater) to the Anacortes ferry but it runs only once a day. "Island Transporter" 360-378-7438. it's a little more expensive than the big bus to Anacortes ferry, but seems convenient going up. On the return, not so much...it's the 5:45 am shuttle (only) that it takes. So I decided to use them only on the trip up and take the big bus on the way back to the airport.
For 4 people the shuttles seemed to work out to be about the same price as a car rental + parking at the ferry terminal. There are short flights over (from a diff airport in Seattle), but they are much more costly

You can also take the Victoria Clipper from Seattle. Straight ride and you might see whales. Hadiyah Carlyle going on the July trip.
