Have some questions. Is there a need to get local currency beforehand? What is the voltage in Ecuador and Peru? What type of outlet plug-ins are needed. How much out of pocket expense is incurred aboard ship?
Rob Stohlman Jul 11, 2014 at 02:49 PM

Out of pocket expenses on the sip were for wet suits and alcohol.
Rob Stohlman Jul 11, 2014 at 02:51 PM

The US Dollar is hte currency of Ecuador and the Neuvo Sol the currency of Peru. Peruvians accept the Dollar but it must be a new, crisp bill - not old, wrinkled or creased.
Yvonne Sippel Jul 11, 2014 at 03:50 PM

Thanks! How about the voltage and plug ins?
Rob Stohlman Jul 11, 2014 at 04:22 PM

The voltage is 240. You will need a plug adaptor. I got mine at AAA. Not sure what ship you will be on - I was on the Galaven. On the very top deck there were a few cloths lines where you could put wet or washed clothing to dry while the boat was moving. Need cloths pins. Strongly recommend getting the wet suit as the water was cold in July when I was there. In Quito the tour guide had a "friend" selling a book on the birds of the Galapagos. It was worth every penny of the $20.00 it cost.
Yvonne Sippel Jul 11, 2014 at 04:42 PM

Okay, thanks. What type of adaptor? European, UK, other?

I'm attending this trip Oct 30. I've read the thread and found helpful information. Are there any others suggestions or recommendations for this adventure?
Yvonne Sippel Jul 14, 2014 at 08:25 AM

I found it helpful to check out all the hotels where we will stay. You can Google them and see the accommodations, services, etc. Also, I Googled what the average temperatures will be during the time we are there (March 2015) Basically any questions I have I've either asked here or Googled for the answer.
Rob Stohlman Jul 14, 2014 at 03:02 PM

When RS sends you the trip information packet, you will find information on the weather as well as on all the hotels.

Marilyn Patterson Jul 05, 2014 at 03:05 PM

Do you need vaccinations for this trip
Yvonne Sippel Jul 11, 2014 at 01:22 PM

I have been told no. Sorry if this answer repeats.

Greg Deuberry Oct 13, 2013 at 10:53 AM

Does anyone know how many people are going on this trip?

Henry Mono Sep 22, 2013 at 06:30 PM

Hi I'm just doing the program. I have traveled several times with Road Scholar. Always had a good time.

Carol Phillips Jul 23, 2013 at 05:04 PM

Hi Everyone -- Anyone else planning to stop over in Quito on the way back?
Valerie Vogt Jul 30, 2013 at 05:11 PM

I have nothing planned like this, but would be interested in knowing how to go about this.
Carol Phillips Aug 10, 2013 at 04:43 PM

Hi Valerie. I've never done anything like this either:) I am determining what I want to see/do and using travelers' advice/ratings to figure out how. I plan to stay in Old Town because that is the area I'm most interested. I am leaving on the 23rd. It would be fun to have company.
Valerie Vogt Aug 22, 2013 at 05:00 PM

Sorry, read this too late. Have all of my airline reservations now. Maybe another time and another trip. I live in Western Canada. Where are you from? Very much looking forward to this trip. I am travelling on my own.
Carol Phillips Aug 31, 2013 at 05:25 PM

Yes, this is a problem - I am going to suggest to RS that they provide notifications when someone leaves messages. Too bad. I live in North Carolina -- I'll look forward to meeting you.
Connie Galvez Sep 12, 2013 at 06:26 PM

Sounds like a great idea but all my flight plans are made. -Look forward to meeting you all- I am from California
