ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging

See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

My name is Frank Napoli, from Vienna, VA. My wife and I are on the 23 Sep 2015 departure. In addition, we have booked a private car & driver for a 4 day, 3 night visit to the Peleponnese area, with overnights at Nafplio, Olympia, and Delphi, beginning on the morning of 7 Oct, when our tour concludes. We would enjoy sharing the vehicle & driver with another 2 people. If interested, Email me at: jaznapoli@cox.net.

We are just down the road in Dumfries. If you come up with any questions after we return on May 20th, you can shoot us an email.

Gerry Chrisman Feb 13, 2015 at 10:25 AM

Carol and I will be on May 6 trip. This will be our second international Road Scholar trip, with about 16 in US/Canada.

Joan Grube Feb 13, 2015 at 10:41 AM

I'll be interested in your opinion of the trip when you return. I am just a little concerned about the stairs with no handrails.
Bill & Leah Brogdon Mar 21, 2015 at 01:47 PM

Gerry, My wife and I will be on the May 6th trip also. Are you by chance going out of Dulles IAP on the 6th?
Gerry Chrisman Mar 21, 2015 at 02:53 PM

No, we ICarol and Gerry) are form Illinois and will be flying out of Chicago on the 5th, a day early. We've been waitllisted twice for this trip in past years, and very happy to be finally scheduled for it.

I will be on this trip-I live in Atlanta and this is my first trip
Leslie Swain Feb 20, 2015 at 01:14 PM

Leslie Swain - I don't know why it doesnt print my name
Leslie Swain Feb 22, 2015 at 04:14 PM

I would love to know if anyone else is going from Atlanta as this is my first Road Scholar trip and I am going alone. I did this trip in 1964 with a group from Sarah Lawrence College so I am excited to see what I remember and how much has changed. I will be flying from Atlanta via

My daughter and I will be taking the Sept. 4-18 trip. This will be my 7th Road Scholar program and her first. My only concern is all the steps without handrails. Guess I'm paranoid since I fell down steps in Hawaii in 2001 and shattered my arm. That has made me a real chicken going down stair. I would enjoy hearing from anyone else going on this trip or any helpful info. from others who have made the trip.

Steve Weisbrod Aug 06, 2014 at 02:04 PM

My wife and I are going on the Sept 9 - 27 journey. Anyone with experience with this trip please advise to avoid unwanted surprises. We are first time Road Scholar participants and looking forward to the adventure.

I read in one of the travel books that at the local tavernas cash is needed instead of credit cards which are not accepted. Is this true?

Mary Sanford Aug 01, 2014 at 10:31 PM

We luckily had calm seas, and there was absolutely no motion to cause sea sickness on the May trip ferries. I was looking for a little more excitement. The overnight ferry might as well been a land locked hotel.

Mary Holland Jul 31, 2014 at 09:51 PM

Do folks get motion sick on these ferries?
Judith Caner Aug 01, 2014 at 07:38 PM

The ferries are large and don't rock. No one had trouble on my trip. I took motion sickness tablets but never used them. It's a fabulous trip. Enjoy !!!
